I am relief TA in the local primary school. I am covering a long term sickness and only work mornings.

DD has kept me awake most nights teething and is barely sleeping at nights. To top it all I have a 2nd (regular ) job which I do on top of the TA job.

I left school this morning, took DD straight to playgroup. Left a little early to go to ASDA to get a few bits and JUST made it in time to pick up DS2.

I was going to park in the road outside school, but as usual because I didn't get there an hour before school finishes it was chocka.

I decided to park in the staff carpark. DD was asleep and because she hasn't been sleeping well I didn't want to wake her.

I know I should have abused it as technically I wasn't working. But as I parked up, someone drove in behind me and said 'are you here to pick up a child' I said 'yes' and she said 'you shouldn't park in here it's a staff carpark' I explained that DD was asleep and I waithed til all the children were coming out so i'd literally be seconds and she said 'still, it's a staff car park and you shouldn't park here'.

I was bit to be fair, first off, i've never seen her in the school before so AFAIK , She isn't staff, so what she was doing driving in the staff car park behind me i've no idea.

Secondly I was so shocked that in hindsight I wish i'd asked her 1). what businesss is it of hers 2) Wish i'd said Fuck off and mind your own (there were children coming out unfortuately).

Why did I make excuses up.

AIBU to have wanted to tell her to Fuck off or was she COMPLETLEY in the right

Will you shout at me if I say she was in the right?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 30/03/2009 17:07

You should have just said 'I am staff, mind your own business'....

2rebecca · 30/03/2009 17:09

I think she was in the right.

nametaken · 30/03/2009 17:09

YABU - my pet hate is off duty teachers and TA's parking in the staff car park.

I don't mind there being a no parking rule, but the rule has to be the same for everybody.

HecAteTheEasterBunny · 30/03/2009 17:41

"I am a ta here" would have covered it, yes?

memoo · 30/03/2009 17:42

YABU, i work in DC school as a TA.

When I am working I use the main staff entrance with DC but when I am not at work I wait at the classroom doors like all the other parent. Its not fair to abuse your position.

And iirc you are only a supply at the school so not even a member of staff employed by the school

morningpaper · 30/03/2009 17:44

Yes at this stage you probably have NO IDEA of the sheer RAW BLOODY ANGER caused by parking isshooos

she was in the right!

YANBU. What's the big deal? You were under duress and only a couple of minutes for pick up. Just so long as you don't do it all the time. I would also have felt like saying feck off.

shinyshoes · 30/03/2009 17:56

LOL, No i'm not new to Mumsnet justaboutback. I can take hordes of mumsnetters saying YABU, because if I am I would like to be told I am so next time I won't park in the car park. it seems on this occasion I was BU. (I kinda knew that anyway)

I can take constructive criticism.

Dons hard hat and hopes they all go gently

and takes notes that I mustn't overuse smileys

I fyou work there, you are staff.I'd just have said that, tbh.

qumps · 30/03/2009 20:41

you are staff and there should be no hierarchy between TAs, teachers or supply.
you sound like a nice person and had a good reason. you are staff and you put your child first. well done you i say!

Gentle · 30/03/2009 20:45

YABU but we all have the odd day when it all goes tits up and we need the world to give us a break. Chalk this up as one of those days and return to your responsible, non-staff-car-park-abusing self.

ChippingIn · 30/03/2009 20:47

YANBU You are staff, if it was pick up time you were hardly likely to be taking the place of a teacher arriving and really you were doing a good turn, not taking up a space a non-staff parent could park in

izzymom · 30/03/2009 20:54

YABU to park in car park

YANBU to want to tell the 'helpful' lady to f*ck off (although be glad you didnt, you'd only have found out later she is governor/Ofsted/ Headteacher's wife!)

RustyBunny · 30/03/2009 20:54

I work in a school & we let all our staff and some parents park there even when they are off duty - you can't park unless you have a permit, but if you have a permit you can park at any time.

oldraver · 31/03/2009 16:03

And you are ?? would of been my first reply

Blu · 31/03/2009 16:08

What Gentle said.

plantsitter · 31/03/2009 16:45

I suppose YABU but I always wonder who these people are who can actually be arsed to tell people off for things like that.
