Sorry, tis a thread about a couple of other threads.
Obviously we have all had to dash out of the house with children in tow in an emergency and not had time to pack a bag, but if you are going on a planned shopping trip, why would you not have enough snacks/nappies/drink with you? And expect to get them for free?

bad form to start threads about other threads

Peachy · 29/03/2009 10:47

Oh comeon chippy, if your baby has diorrhea or teething tummy as that baby did its easy to run out of nappies.

And yes, bad form.

ChippyMinton · 29/03/2009 10:48

I know. I just get fed up when people think the world owes them a living.

A nappy in a baby shop is hardly the same as watching the dollars roll in while you sit on your arse, is it? It would be simple good customer service.

EyeballsintheSky · 29/03/2009 10:53

I think in the case of Mothercare vs free nappies, it shouldn't be beyond expectation that a store that makes its living from babies, should have a reasonable changing room with either a vending machine, or a bit of common sense. Of course the world doesn't owe anyone a living, but what happened to being considerate and looking out for our fellow man mothers? Would a packet of nappies for emergencies really be that much of a big deal? But it would have gone a long way in the brownie points stakes. We'd all be saying how wonderful they were now.

And I don't get that if they give a nappy to one then there'll be a queue round the block. Really, where are all these freeloaders? Most people I know are decent, responsible human beings and not out for what they can get.

Peachy · 29/03/2009 10:54

Agree, a nappy isn't a living.

Woulod be stunning advertising though;I'm forever saying to Dh oh we should use / not use that palce, you should see what they said about it on MN....

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 29/03/2009 10:57

Yes YABU.

There are all sorts of reasons why sleep-deprived shell shocked new mothers might not sometimes be equipped.

I would rather be helpful and supportive of one, than critical of her organisational skills.

2chocolateshoes · 29/03/2009 10:58

yabu for starting this thread

VinegarTitsTheVirginNun · 29/03/2009 11:01

Have no idea about the other thread but sounds to me like YABU, i have been caught short many times when out with a baby and i am perfect i will have you know

nannynick · 29/03/2009 11:05

I do childcare as a job, not as a parent - so it is my job to plan ahead, to make sure I am suitably equipped.
I do feel you are right that some parents should be better at planning ahead, but reality is that some are not good at that, some are sleep deprived/are in zombie land and therefore will forget things.
Even I have forgotten things... taking snacks on a walk for example (I thought I had pack them, but they were still in the car) - so we have to buy expensive drinks from a cafe. We all forget things from time to time... no one is perfect. No one is Mary Poppins!

Astrophe · 29/03/2009 11:08

Of course we all should go out fully prepared for all eventualities. But being human, we all sometimes fail to do as we should, for whatever reason (eg having a small baby and being tired, frazzled, baby having an unschedueled poo or taking ill). And its not unreasonable to hope a fellow human being might help you out when you stuff up!

YABU for starting an unkind thread though.

VinegarTitsTheVirginNun · 29/03/2009 11:08

Oh just skimmed through the thread in question, and yes YABU, i never take snacks to the supermarket when shopping with my toddler, no need to when i can give him free bananas

JodieO · 29/03/2009 11:11

Lol VT

Lilyloo · 29/03/2009 11:12

Chippy given i have made hundreds of shopping trips planned and unplanned and never run short then i am sure , given i am only human as is my baby with an upset stomach to be allowed to make a mistake.

I did not 'expect' a nappy for free i just asked in the 'hope' they may provide them as there are a few large retailers who do in there changing rooms.

Why on earth this constitutes me expecting the world to owe me a living i cannot fathom!!!

ChippyMinton · 29/03/2009 11:28

I apologise, lilyloo, it was not meant as a personal comment - that's why I didn't post on your thread. I am more aerated about the indignation on the bananagate thread really.

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 29/03/2009 11:31

Ooh, where is bananagate? Sounds good...

Lilyloo · 29/03/2009 11:32

tis fine i did dare to venture on an AIBU thread so fair game lol!
Haven't seen the other thread but think i may have had my quota of aibu for the time being

Lawks · 29/03/2009 11:32

You are quite right OP. Everyone should be perfect at all times.

BitOfFun · 29/03/2009 11:35

Lilyloo, piss off, you freeloader!

Qally · 29/03/2009 11:36

It's rather hard to be well organised when you've not had more than 80 minutes of unbroken sleep in a month. And expecting Mothercare to provide nappies is reasonable - it's not like expecting a lapdancing club to do so.

VinegarTitsTheVirginNun · 29/03/2009 11:40

Oh i see there is nappygate aswell, yes these irresponsible mothers who dont pack enough snacks and nappies for shopping trips, shoot them i say

macdoodle · 29/03/2009 11:41

"the wrold owes them a living" oh FFS where did they say that ???

BackToBasics · 29/03/2009 11:56

Yabu. With a baby and toddler, i can't remember everything. Even when i have checked the change bag and think i have everything,i still go to get say, a bib, then realise i have left them behind.

I remember most things but i am human as well.

SerendipitousHarlot · 29/03/2009 12:23

Oh how I wish I was perfect

Oh..... wait..............
