to think that if you come to book club you should've read the book?

That's it really.
I'm going to book club tomorrow night and one of the women said today that she hasn't read the book but she's going to come anyway and oh, by the way she hasn't got a babysitter so can she bring her DDs?

So, am I being tight to object or not?

FFS. I've been a member of a book club for about 5 years. NO CHILDREN EVER. EVER.

Get her told.

YANBU - if people do this all the time in your group, it's really annoying (although I have just read the first and last chapters and reviews of some real stinkers we've had, but wouldn't admit that of course)

Bringing a tiny sleeping baby is ok. Bringing a child or more than one isn't unless they can entertain themselves in another room. In our group, unless the child in question is a baby, if you can't get a sitter, you don't go.

OK-ish not to have read the book. Not OK to bring children. End of.
