(Hi I'm new to mumsnet tho have been lurking for ages!)
Story is - we bought a dishwasher from Argos in October. We were in the process of selling/renting out our house so we only bought a cheap model (£150) because we expected to be moving out soon and probably leaving it behind. Anyway, it broke in mid December so we were without it all over Christmas. It had a leak which was fusing the electrics.
Got in back in January and it worked for a while but then at the end of February stopped washing the dishes and still had a slight leak.
By this time we had an offer on our house and a moving date of 31st March.
We explained this and said we wouldn't be here for them to return it if it was repaired and that we'd prefer a refund. They said the engineer still had to visit.
In the meantime, a friend mentioned the 'sale of goods act' and that if an item is "inherently faultly" you're entitled to chose a refund. We phoned and said this but with no joy. They said they could process that we were refusing a repair but the engineer still had to come for us to do this. So we went with this.
We then didn't hear any more. When DH rang they said that because we had refused the repair they considered the matter closed! So the argument just goes on!
So, AIBU to expect my cheap dishwasher to work for more than a few months? And AIBU to expect a refund or vouchers rather than another repair or replacement of the same (not very good) model. Or is it all my fault for being a cheapskate in the first place?!
Thanks if you've made it this far on such a dull topic!
