to want to buy a new pushchair

We already have a silver cross pram in our loft. It was not new when my son used it and is about 10 years old. The only problem was the last year our loft had squirrels and the squirrels used the pram as a toilet. It is in a disgusting state.

I want to buy a new pram, but my husband wants us to buy a new mattress for the old one and clean it up. He argues that its bad for the enviroment and feels I should buy a pram second hand if I really want another pram.

I know push chairs and prams are expensive, but I want something new and we can afford it.

YANBU. I would want to do the same.

If he's worried about the environment he can clean it up and offer it on freecycle!

BouncingTurtle · 25/03/2009 16:01

I second Iwish - make HIM clean it!

Eyeballsinthesky · 25/03/2009 16:03

Eek, new one definitely. I wouldn't put my child in squirrel poo, even if it was cleaned.

Geepers · 25/03/2009 16:08

I wouldn't use a 10 year old pram even if it was pristine. If you can afford it, buy a new one.

rolandbrowning · 25/03/2009 16:09

YANBU, Is he normally so environment-conscious?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2009 16:12

YANBU!

Is there anything he has bought recently or is planning to buy that you can use as a negotiating tactic?

mammapiggy · 25/03/2009 16:12

YANBU - definitley get a new one! What are men like eh!

I would tell your dh that you definitley need to have a new one for the sake of the baby, the old one sounds like a health and safety risk to me!

mammapiggy · 25/03/2009 16:13

i mean 'definitely'

sagacious · 25/03/2009 16:17

Crikey I'm a lone voice of dissent I think YABU (not like me to be contentious)

I'd give it a good scrub with ecover [ to prove lentil weaver credability] leave it out to air and be more than happy to re use

My husband thinks I should get a second hand pram from the newspaper/ ebay.

I like this one.

Yes, he is quite green and would be prepared to clean the old pram. In fact when my son was little he used to sometimes wash the cloth nappies.

I just want to blow being green for once and treat myself.

I was like this and bought a new one when ds was born, wanted everything nice for new baby (stupid pfb mother). Have since aquired 2 second hand ones (different reasons). Couldn't give a stuff now if it is second hand. Would probably draw the line at squirrel sh*t though.

Reallytired · 25/03/2009 17:11

I had hardly anything new for my son as we were as poor as church mice at the time. We got everything out of the paper, including many bargains. We still have my son's cot and I am definately using it for bump. We bought this cot out the newspaper for £25 and its beautiful.

I'm a stupid second precious born mother and I would like to get a few new things with this baby as we have more money now.

I'm excited as my trial pack of nappies have come. At least my husband isn't insisting on me buying second hand nappies. I just now need bump to land so we can try out the new nappies.

cover his side of the bed is squirrel poo, wash. then put on it 10 year old bed sheets which have been in storage up an attic.
If he is perfectly happy to sleep in it then fair enough you will have to use the old one if he isnt then buy a new one lol

I would get a different pram but second hand would be ok if my husband was that against new

I do think that sometimes thing just reach the end of their lifespan though

My husband has given in. The stink was too horrenous. I think we will be pulling straws on who has the job of taking it to the dump.
