to expect letters from my child's school to have correct grammar, spelling & punctuation?

When my eight-year-old is pointing out misplaced apostrophes & spelling errors in the letters she brings home, it just seems wrong. And when there are also notices up in the building that are full of punctuation & grammar errors, it seems even worse. I know it's a fact of life that people make mistakes, but surely school staff should be taking extra trouble to get this right?

Another teacher here. I correct other teachers' work all the time. I do it politely, mind you, saying that they were obviously in a hurry or something...

It winds me up when people don't seem to care. How are we supposed to teach the pupils about the importance of being understood and being seen as thick if they miss something, when we ignore the mistakes made by adults. (Reminds me of comments made on another thread about a poster's inability to spell or construct a sentence properly)

So to all the teachers on this thread... is there anything parents can do about this that might make a difference? Might enough corrected letters finally wear them down?

I'm going to buy a balaclava.

Bring on the balaclavas, send in (correctly spelt) letters of complaint, bring it to the attention of whoever can get things done.

Bed time now, this is a school night, after all.

There was a comment on my ds's book telling him to 'concentrait.' We also had many spelling errors on his IEPs last year.

The letters he brings home do not have spelling/grammatical errors.

I didn't want to point out the spelling errors as the teachers are under so much pressure, but it doesn't give me a good impression.

YANBU a thousand times over. I would be hopping mad!

With dd's old teacher it wasn't a problem - we used to have a laugh about it. Her teacher this year is just terribly embarrassed and apologises profusely even though half the time, at least, it's nothing to do with him! Poor lad, I think he's scared of me.

we had a letter home a couple of weeks ago basically saying oh s**t we have realised none of year 4 can spell so they are being put into groups there will be a test every week etc etc
the homework for that week said we are learning about the SKELTON this week
says it all really
