To be surprised to see a car with two children alone in it a good five minute walk from school?

How stupid can some people be?

I wouldn't leave mine.
I'd be worried that the 1yr might put something in its mouth and choke. A 6yo might not know how to deal with something like that.
They might knock the handbrake off.
And while it might be a hassle getting the children/buggy out of the car it's not that big a deal (unless you are in a rush).

"I'd be worried that the 1yr might put something in its mouth and choke" Like what? A door handle? A head rest? Your 1 year old should have anything they could put in their mouth and choke on anyway!!

You have children SD. You must have experienced the 'where did you get that from?' moments when you think you've put everything they shouldn't have out of their reach only to turn around and they're trying to eat it.

Or is that just me?

TheMadHouse · 25/03/2009 11:43

Oh this could be me. I have a 2.9 year old who has been refusing to get in and out of the car to take DS1 to preschool, so I have left him straped in his car seat this last week, as I had a major operation a couple of weeks agao.

I did try and wrestle him in this morning, but popped a stitch, so left him in the deat outside the school.

I am aware of the risks, but he is strapped in and nothing is in his reach.

I leave my DS in the car most mornings as I run DD to the gate. Its about 50 metres and the car is within sight at all times. He asks to stay in the car and I am lazy so its a win/win situation .

if mum was on the school run why was a 6yr in it?

i think if you can see the car then its not a problem - but seems that the op couldnt see the mum, therefore the mum couldnt see the children

i have left my 2 youngest in car at bottom of school drive if raining, run up drive to get eldest - i can see the car, it is alarmed and locked and im back within a minute rather than take 5mins unclipping and clipping back 2 young children in the rain

The mum may have been in a house and although the op couldnt see her - she may have been able to see op and thought ahh hah watch that op she looks dogdy....

I am clearly the most negligent Mum of all time. I do this all the time.

We go on holidays at least 4 times a year. Does this make me a traveller?

Someone i know was driving her car and the baby was in the car seat in the back and died because she had swallowed something. So it could happen if your there or not.

I wouldnt do it. I wont even let my DS2 get in the car without my constant supervision. Paranoid parent moi? Nah the little bleeder presses every button, switches every switch, blocks up my cd player and generally wrecks the joint.

I dont know how half the things in my car work so when he changes them I have no idea how to put them back.

I honestly cannot remember if we have ever left the kids in the car. I am not mad - there is a big gap between the first two and the second two. Def havnt left the youngest two but we may well have left the others for v.short periods in a place we felt was safe.

My mum and dad used to leave us in the car for hours whilst they went to the pub and drive home pissed and without seat belts.

Ahh those were the days
