Namechange.

So we're in a national trust shop yesterday, and I see a necklace I like for £3.50. I know DH hasn't got me any thing for mothers Day from DD yet, as I have already asked him. So I send DD over to DH with necklace, suggesting she asks him to get it for Mothers day - lightheartedly, I mean it's only £3.50, and better to have some thing I like than a scented candle or whatever, no?

DH strides over, asks me huffily at top of his voice (in a tiny shop) "So you want this, do you"

Me, going red - "er, well, I just thought.."

Him - very loud, people are turning to stare - "How much is it"

Me, felling about six years old "It's £3.50" (this was apparent from the very obvious price tag).

Him, at top of his voice, very grumpy - "Oh, so you want this, do you? Is that as well as a mothers day present, or instead of one?"

Me, whispering, wishing ground would open up "look, forget it!"

Him, playing to the crowd, with big sighs, "Oh, no, I'll buy it for you if you want it, how much did you say it was? and this is for tomorrow, right?"

Then stomps off to pay, asking the woman on the till twice more how much it costs.

I leave the shop nearly in tears of mortification, and he keeps asking me "what's wrong"!

Well, I got my necklace...but I don't really want it now.

Around the rim of the bog or the dog would do.
Actually, scrap that - doing both wouldn't be punishment enough for this.
YANBU at all
What a tool

BouncingTurtle · 22/03/2009 19:33

OMG how old as your DH? 6yo?

He seriously needs to grow up. What a mean way to treat your dw All he achieved was to make himself look incredibly petty in front of strangers. DH agrees with me.

Show him this thread.

Bellebelle · 22/03/2009 19:33

YANBU at all. I could actually cry for you, that's a really horrible way to treat you. Hope that was unusual behaviour from him and not something you need to put up with normally. You should ask him how dare he speak to you like that.

pamelat · 22/03/2009 19:34

How strange.

I would have thought he would have found it cute that you asked DD. I can't see why he would be annoyed at all?

If it were expensive maybe, how odd.

thederkinsdame · 22/03/2009 21:31

YANBU patronising and rude behaviour. I suggest that you remove your DH's balls and make them into a pair of earrings to match the necklace.

yousaidit · 22/03/2009 22:09

thederkinsdame: wha, the national trust sell knacker necklaces?

BEAUTlFUL · 22/03/2009 22:26

I feel so sad for you. What an arse.

mamas12 · 22/03/2009 22:31

Good god what is his problem?
Poor you and your dc, how was she after all that stupidity?
Ask what the hell was that all about. Hope your mothers day was ok.

Servalan · 22/03/2009 22:33

Agree with the consensus that he is an arse.

FWIW, were I in the shop observing the situation, the only person I would have been looking down on in that whole scene would have been your H. He made himself look a total tit.

edam · 22/03/2009 22:35

Blimey, your not-so-d h really is an arse. Tell him to treat you with some respect or piss off.

edam · 22/03/2009 22:36

and Servalan is right, only person who should be feeling embarrassed is him, not you.

BEAUTlFUL · 22/03/2009 22:38

He probably behaved like this because he felt that buying you a present was his job and that you shouldn't "help" him do it, or that you shouldn't make him feel like you didn't trust him to do it.

I'm not defending him! But that might have been what was going through his head, causing the wankiness. I don't know, though - men are just odd. The way he spoke to you was out of order and weirdly mean, and he is now dead to me, the cock.

Heated · 22/03/2009 22:43

I would've assumed he had piles or a twisted sack to be that petulant and oafish.

Never, never, never would dh speak to me like that.

Hope it was totally out of character.

choosyfloosy · 22/03/2009 22:47

I certainly think that I would put the necklace at the bottom of my pants drawer under the grey emergency ones and hope never to see it again.

You poor thing. Hope tomorrow is better.
