to think a lot of people really expect far too much from Mothers Day?

Really. All the griping about what you did or didn't 'get'. Can't you just be happy with a cup of tea in bed and the love of your children?

I would if I even got the cup of tea.

I've just started a new thread before I saw this one ... asking people to look here - lovely pics, sad captions of what life is really like for women in other parts of the world, in this case eastern congo.

my dh died when I was pg with ds so I don't have anyone to make cards, buy presents or do breakfast in bed (ds is not yet 2!) and I still consider myself lucky and privileged.

some people need to get a grip imho.

I find it odd how many mothers of children too small to buy presents or make or buy cards expect their husbands to buy them stuff.

MotherMerryHenry · 22/03/2009 23:33

2rebecca, I think YABU .

DS is 2.7 and I got a lovely card and a little sweet that he "made" for me at nursery. The best part was when I picked him up on Thursday there was a tantrum over him giving up "his" sweet. This morning, he gave it to me. That was a big achievement for him and it made me very proud. That's what Mother's Day is about IMO.

FairLadyRantALot · 22/03/2009 23:58

hehe...I got the funniest cards today...my ms, for instance, made me a lovely card and inside it didn't jsut say Happy Mothers Day, it also said...." thank you for letting me paint my cup"...this had me in stitches...because, you see the Kids got cups to paint and well, we still haven't let them do those...and they keep nagging...and one day they will be doign them...so, for ds, 6y old, to come up with that for the card was quite funny....manipulating sod...rofl...

well, I have zilt expectations for mothersday, hence can't get to disappointed....

midlandsmumof4 · 23/03/2009 00:46

Me too Fairlady-no expectations whatsoever. So the two cards I got with flowers & chocs were great. One son refuses absolutely to 'conform to commercialism'-he does not do Mother/Fathers Day cards, birthday cards or any other sort of card. Present-he gave me a cuddle and said-Love you mum, you're the greatest. Whats for dinner-hope its beef! (it was) . I am never disappointed on Mothers Day .

midlandsmumof4 · 23/03/2009 00:48

BTW-sons are 28, 22,21 & 19 .

pinkyp · 23/03/2009 00:49

I'm blessed because i have a gorgeous, healthy child, i dont need my partner to get me a box of choc's from our child to feel special. I know how lucky i am....

if he did want to get me chocs howver i wouldnt decline his offer.

midlandsmumof4 · 23/03/2009 01:21

Well I don't really like chocolate but I'll eat them anyway. Like I do every year cos I wouldn't.....not .

FairLadyRantaLot your ds's card made me think of my dd at assembly one day. She said that she always helps mummy tidy up Don't know where she got that from, but whenever I ask her to tidy she ends up in a strop/tantrum

My dd was trying to decribe her mother's day card to me every day this week. I had to keep shushing her and telling her that she needed to keep it as a surprise. Then on Sunday she thought it was still drying at school but then found it in her schoolbag. She can be very funny
