to make DH sleep on the sofa last night?

DH and I have a 10 week old DD and have agreed that if he has been drinking he's to sleep in the spare room. We have a guest at the moment, and DH came home with said guest the worse for wear last night. Now I know co-sleeping when either parent has been drinking is a big no-no, but does the same apply to sleeping in the same room? DH does reek of booze the morning after - which means the bedroom, where DD is sleeping, also stinks. I can't find any official position on this, but took the hardline stance anyway and made DH sleep on the sofa as our guest is in the spare room. Was IBU?

Well I think I would have made him sleep on the sofa for the one reason that he snores very loudly when drunk, however I do not know the rules about co-sleeping I think in your room but not in your bed would have been fine.

I think the co-sleeping alcohol issue is more to do with the fact that you sleep more heavily when drunk, more likely to roll on the baby etc, than to do with the smell of alcohol, IYSWIM.

But you're still not BU because sleeping next to someone who stinks of beer when you're sober is horrible.

I don?t think the fumes etc would really bother the baby that much and am sure it is about co-sleeping - but he could well have given you a bad night?s sleep! With a 10 week old you need all the sleep you can get so I think you were no unreasonable

The alcohol thing is about being in a very deep sleep so more likely to roll on the baby. I have not heard it being about the fumes before. However, I could be wrong here. Whatever the situation, at least your room is not smelly and you got a reasonable night?s sleep!

Okay, thanks! DH was a bit martyred about it but did comply, I was worried I was being a bit PFB but if I am not BU then I shall maintain the high ground on this one!

YANBU I make DP sleep on the sofa even if he has had a pint, partly the cosleeping partly the smell.

I don't know about the fumes for the baby, but they certainly would have made me nauseated! If nothing, just out of consideration, he could sleep on the sofa if he reeks of alcohol.
