to think dh's suggestion is bonkers

This morning, dh allowed dd to drink hot chocolate whilst wearing a white Monsoon cardigan that was bought for her christening (last year). Our kids rarely have expensive new clothes, so I'm quite attached to it. Needless to say, she poured hot choc down the front.

I just asked him if it came out in the wash, and he said "I haven't done anything with it yet". Then he said "Maybe I'll soak it overnight with a dishwasher tablet, they seem to get everything out".

AIBU to think his idea is crap?

well
if he is right
let me know

mrsmaidamess · 21/03/2009 23:22

Why not use a clothes washing tablet? or is that too obvious? Or is the dress made of porcelain?

Grendle · 21/03/2009 23:24

Nope, MrsM, I thought that was the obvious answer too...

I am told he was being 'witty', but is now seriously considering a scientific experiment. I'm thinking he might be buying a new cardi soon.

It will be too harsh

Grendle · 21/03/2009 23:26

He has just wandered into the kitchen muttering about Tesco vs Ecover...

I will definitely be too harsh if he does further damage!

Take control - for the sake of the cardigan.

Soak with a laundry detergent not a dishwashing detergent

hf128219 · 21/03/2009 23:34

White cardigans are for Christenings - or for gettng dirty!

tigerdriver · 21/03/2009 23:38

My MIL (dec'd and the M of my exH if that makes sense) used to use OMO to do the washing up with as she had "been in the war" and it was "all detergent£". Not sure this helps the cardigan question but I suspect that all these things are pretty much the same in different packings. The dinner used to taste like laundry by the way.

Anyone else think that a man who worries this much about stain removal is a bit hot

just me then??

tw1nkley · 21/03/2009 23:45

OK!! What is it made of - exactly!!

tw1nkley · 21/03/2009 23:45

Actually pd i'm with you on that one!!!!

purpleduck · 21/03/2009 23:48

Whew!
My dh doesn't seem to ever do laundry... I think he would get it more if he put a load in now and again

seeker · 21/03/2009 23:52

My mother swears by steradent for stains in anything - not just teeth!

tw1nkley · 21/03/2009 23:59

steradent contains a bleach - depends on what cardigan is made of...

pd my dp is banned from using the washing machine since a major silk trousers disaster in 1995. He put them on a 95 wash and then tumble dried them on hot.

be careful what you wish for

His lack of laundry time has allowed him to concentrate on other skills tho!!

tigerdriver · 22/03/2009 00:02

Hey, twinkley, I bet you have a lovely pair of crinkle shorts

tw1nkley · 22/03/2009 00:08

u better believe it!!

MeMySonAndI · 22/03/2009 00:17

Everything can be removed with alcohol gel

tigerdriver · 22/03/2009 00:19

Alcohol gel. I hear that desperate patients put this in their OJ. Is this true? Where can I get some?

MeMySonAndI · 22/03/2009 00:20

OJ? wha is that?

You can get it from Boots, is the one you use to wash your hands, you can even remove biro marks with it.

tigerdriver · 22/03/2009 00:23

Orange Juice

There was something on the BBC news website about 2 weeks ago saying that some hospitals are abandoning alcohol gel because of abuse by visitors. Completely surreal. Someone more techhie than me will be able to find a link but it is bizarre, they go into hospitals, nick the handwash, then mix it with OJ.

Thats it!!!!!!!! I'm going to push some zeds.

Night folks...

tw1nkley · 22/03/2009 00:44

Actually in lou of finding out what the cardigan was made of i will hand out this ancient advice lol!

if its stained put it in cold water straight away - not hot!!

If u r out attack with baby wipes they can strip paint a 40 paces (almost )

If its cotton or synthetic bung it in the machine with some cheap soda crystals cool wash and yr normal powder then hang on the washing line, the uv reacts with the soda and removes the stain like magic.

If its wool wash and bung on line for a few days.

even works with bolognase although apparantly the best way to remove bolognase stains is to use your own saliva - it contains an enzyme which is capable of breaking it down completely.

Last resort try anything short of a flame thrower - if the stain is still there you're going to have to bin it anyway.

Find another one on ebay in the next size up - it would have been outgrown soon anyway.
