To be feeding my children chicken dippers, chips and beans

because it's a Friday, I'm 31 weeks pregnant with SPD, chronic backache, every lovingly home-cooked meal I have slaved over has been pushed around this week (both DDs have had D&V) and, quite frankly, I can't be arsed?

(mine are so skinny that ds1 is beinga ssessed for eating disorder though so calories not relevant here for them at the moment.

Any suggestion that the reason they're skinny and I am overweight is that I ate all their food will be frowned on sternly.

)

Blotted I love the nappy outer things you knitted/crotcheted (I know nowt, obviously) - they are fabulous.

The dog has finished the food the kids didn't eat, so I have committed 2 crimes tonight.

Blotted - my DH feels the same about McDs but it is a once/twice a year treat for me. Worked there for a summer when I was 16 and being a poor student obviously used my staff allowance to eat their grub for my breaks. I got completely hooked on their burgers and I swear there must be something addictive in them - beware

Numberfour · 20/03/2009 18:52

DS had biltong and apple SQUASH for tea. well, a pre supper snack because i have not made anything yet!

found out today that he needs thick glasses, as the fucking optician so gently put it, and he is only 4.................... DS not the fucking optician.

so while DS watches tv and has some crap to eat, i am going to have another glass of wine. DH is bbqing because he knows i am feeling very blue

so, in short: YANBU!!!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 20/03/2009 18:57

Numberfour

How tactless was that optician?

Have my weekly glass of wine too. Gwan, you need it.

Numberfour so very at your ds having biltong.

YANBU to do chicken dippers, chips and beans. It isn't going to kill them!

wiggletastic · 20/03/2009 19:19

YANBU. This sounds perfectly reasonable once in a while especially if they enjoy it. As a child I was fed on tinned spaghetti, tinned macaroni, tinned meatballs smash potatoes, orange juice made up from a packet??! and creamola foam (loved that stuff!). Has done me no harm that I can discern and my Dad was a single parent trying to run a business and bring up two kids so have to cut him some slack over dietary crimes.

Belgianchocolates · 20/03/2009 20:26

grumpy thought I'd have a look at your thread and just to anwer: YANBU. It's even better than what I feed my dcs when I can't be arsed to cook because I'm suffering/tired/having a completely disorganised day/etc... I usually feed them pizza. Even easier . But of course they get plenty of days where they have proper home made food.

BouncingTurtle · 20/03/2009 20:30

Hey I've just noticed you are a fellow Teessider, Grumpy!!

Oh YANBU!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 20/03/2009 20:46

BouncingTurtle

It could be worse - I could have fed them a Parmo .

I was pleased to see it was homemade food your DS was eating on the weaning picture! What a cutie . I wish to steal your cat by the way.......

becka1 · 20/03/2009 20:47

oh dear this is what i feed my DD nearly every day!

becka1 · 20/03/2009 20:48

is there anything wrong with that

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 20/03/2009 20:50

We had Burger King (shoot me)

Went to toys r us straight from school as we needed to get a party present for tomorrow and dd asked if we could have tea there

dd had two mini aberdeen angus cheeseburgers fries and coke followed by a caramal shortbread ice cream

ds had mini chicken nuggs with apple slices and juice and a bit of ice cream

tomorrow they will be back on 5 a day and water so i wont loose any sleep

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 20/03/2009 20:54

CHOCOLATEPEANUT

My God. Toys r us and Burger King in one fell swoop. Well, I am horrified and think you should be reported.

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 20/03/2009 20:55

we had fish and chips...which morphed into chip sandwiches with real butter

mmmmmmmmmmm

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 20/03/2009 20:56

as ds was chomping on his nuggs he was dancing about to some hiphop being played and i thought my god i have become a chav

salome64 · 20/03/2009 21:10

luncheon meat -, ah, the memories....

Jackaroo · 20/03/2009 21:10

I am afraid that I am similarly "lazy".

If I was lucky enough to have a DS who could eat eggs, dairy etc., no doubt I would be rustling up omelettes and glasses of wine (presumably not for the DC though), but actually to have a meal that doesn't require any thought at all is a godsend (or washing up, more importantly).

At the moment (also very pg., ailments etc) I push on through until I can next justify giving fish fingers, oven chips and possibly peas.... at the moment I'm averaging every 7-10 days.

As for "a bit of salad". To me, preparing salad is not somethign I would be prepared to do for anyone if I was tired, so certainly not for small child who would need pinning down to eat it.

Good thing about this thread is that it will give some a chance to feel they are doing so well in making sure their child always had great food. Having a brother who lived on turkey burgers, chips and beans for approx. 6 years, and appears to be the brightest person I know, I'm happy with my efforts.

I also like the idea that the amount of tomato sauce DS likes to consume with it is consider an excellent source of lycopene, and you can't get much better in the antioxidant stakes.
