he hasn't slept today - most strange for him - we are meeting up with his play mates in an hour.....

just feel a bit guilty as he is now talking to himself...!

Gosh no - I did that when my DD was about the same age too. If he's happy then I wouldn't worry.

If he's not screaming, I wouldn't worry. He may drop off in a minute, but it sounds as though he is content. It's nice when LOs begin to amuse themselves.

stickylittlefingers · 19/03/2009 13:36

absolutely not - even if he's not asleep he's having a bit of switch off time, which is a good second. Obviously get him if he's unhappy, but I think it's great he's so happy there!

My DS, also 15 months, goes up to his cot for naps when I know he's tired, even if he doesn't quite believe me at the time. I often hear him on the monitor singing and chatting to his toys one minute, and then baby snores the next....

mamas12 · 19/03/2009 13:39

It's a lovely thing to do. It enables him to amuse himself eith being dependent on you entertaining him all the time and to go to sleep on his own. Win win I say. Plus you get time to yourself.

katiepotatie · 19/03/2009 14:04

No you are not - it's good he learns to entartain himself, he'll probably drop off anyway. DD often is awake for a good 30 mins every morning, looking at books before I get up and get her

Meglet · 19/03/2009 14:08

YANBU! If he is happy doing it now it will make life easier when he is older. My DS looks at books for ages before he wants to get up, I can always ear my breakfast in peace before he starts shouting for me.

Thanks everyone!

I went to see if he was ok when all was very quiet. I found him fast asleep with his book over his face and his arm through the hole of the front cover! (Great book "Calm Down Boris!").

Aw it's so sweet when they do that. I've left my ds (12m) before now when I know he's tired, he just plays in the cot for a bit and he'll lay down to sleep by himself. I put him in there when I'm cleaning upstairs as I know he's safe and he does seem to like time on his own occasionally. (I think sometimes me and DP get on his nerves TBH! He enjoys the peace!)
