To expect my architect to come to me for all meetings??

The project is a residential property and is just around the corner from where we live. The architect's office is on the other side of town.

Time is ridiculously short with us and we are paying the architect the usual steamy 10% of the project in fees for him to design / project manage etc.

Are we unreasonable to insist that he always comes to us for any meetings that we may have?

No, but he will charge you expenses. Ours did.

That;'s fine - we're expecting that. We just want to know if we can stipulate that all meetings are at our end without causing any bother.

I think architects actually make bugger all from a domestic remodel - I certainly wouldn't class it as steamy or feel ripped off. Many won't touch these jobs because they often end up effectively paying to work, once overheads and demanding clients are taken into account.

I'm not an architect or married to one, btw.

Ours made quite alot of money out of us.

Well, that depends on the hours and the overheads, doesn't it? It's more likely to have been a hefty gross amount, but a meagre profit.

So you think we should go to him?

It would take 2 lots of travel time for the 2 of us plus loss of earnings for me and mean my husband has to work the equivalent time in the evening say.

For him to travel, he is being paid to do it and he's actually doing his job while he does it IYSWIM.

Well, that's my argument anyway.

No, I don't think you should go to him, but I think it might be a little unfair to expect him to include the travel-time either way in the 10%. I expect that when he priced the job he calculated that some meetings would be at yours and some at his, and this will have impacted on his costings.
