Bit long but still making me laugh!!

I called DH last night too see the house was ok and the dog hadnt trashed anything (i was at work) as i do every night when he arrives home, no answer on the phone. Had a text 5 mins later 'to ill to come to the phone really ill need indigestion tabs' so i call him and he sounds like hes dying!
arrive home 2 hours later with bicarb of soda, hes in bed still 'ill'. Had waited 2 hours for me to get home to bring him a glass of water from the kitchen as he was 'seriously dehydrated'
Hour later still 'ill' flu/cold symptoms so i offer lemsip and some food, 'ooh i dont think it will help' 'food might make me sick' i think ok leave him to it. 10 mins later 'ill have that food and drink now'
1:30am wakes me up to ask me if he had 2 duvets covering him as he's 'freezing' lmao.Next half an hour moaning so i get up make him lempsip again hes still moaning. In the end i tell im to drink the flaming drink which will take away the headache, shivering etc etc.

He's currently laying on the sofa im squished in at the end of it, covered with 2 duvets and me running round for him tending to his beck and call.

Do your DH act like this??? Funny as now his package catalogue of car parts has arrived from usa hes sat up happily browsing!!

ha ha bloody men, my partner is like that too!! I was in the chemist yesterday and a bloke came in and looked fine, he was in there 10 mins and not a sneeze or cough to be seen or heard, no tissues in sight etc etc he asked the cashier for beechams cold and flu - it needed to be the flu one not just for colds as he had flu!!! He also needed some tissues as he is going through so many apparently, and some strepsils as he could barely talk - sounded fine to me the poor cashier was trying to hold back the giggles!!!!

Dh was ill on sunday, he just takes himself off to bed, i check on him every hour or so, he requests drinks, food and tablets.

At christmas he spent 2 days in bed but managed to play on the x-box and use his laptop.

shirleyc · 18/03/2009 11:57

lol glad its not just my dh the whole episode is rather amusing im holding back the laughter with it all.

Oh, don't get me started on man'flu!

My DH insists on using cotton handkerchiefs instead of hygienic paper ones that can be flushed away (I even bought balm ones for his poor little nose!) He still uses the nasty cotton ones then leaves them in his laundry basket with all of his dirty clothes.

I refuse to have anything to do with the revolting hankies and so atm his laundry basket is full to the brim as there is a snotty hanky right on the top!

I find that being completely ott helps them to recover faster - too much niceness seems to make my DH uncomfortable so he decides that he can manage to shift himself from the bed/sofa or wherever his dying swan impersonation is taking place!

Cicatrice · 18/03/2009 11:58

DH was very on Saturday (as was I - I have a chest infection). He was, however, well enough to go to the rugby, although he had been too ill to get up early with DS.

Clearly your DH just needs some rugby and he will be cured!

I've just had a bad cold (note, cold, not flu) and have gallbladder issues, but it's dp who snivels and whines and gets "bronchial pneumonia" on an almost monthly basis.

I think it's a chromosome thing.

(also agree with organised, in that the more TLC you lavish, the quicker they get better....I try the "shall I call the oncall doctor honey?" approach. )

shirleyc · 18/03/2009 12:03

lmao guys! I did ask him if he needed a doctor last night but he quietly 'declined' my kind offer! lmao

shirleyc · 18/03/2009 12:04

eww at the dirty hankies! does he expect you to wash them for him??

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/03/2009 12:06

Yes

That is way beyond the call of duty imo - especially as I have provided balmy tisses for him!

ProfYaffle · 18/03/2009 12:06

Oh God, dh drives me insane with his ridiculous illnesses. Yet when it comes to cuts and bruises he's completely the opposite, his leg could be hanging off by a thread and he'd decline a plaster. Slightest hint of a sore throat and he's off work for days

shirleyc · 18/03/2009 12:07

hahaha thats more than my dh got! We're out of loo roll at the moment as he seems to have eaten the last 12 rolls and im not going to the shop till i want to Havent heard him sniff as yet though clearly this is a 'flu' without the running nose!?

Would love to get in on this one, but last time I was dismissive of DH's claim to be ill, he developed pneumonia and was signed off work for a month!

Thankyouandgoodnight · 18/03/2009 20:47

My DH has just had man flu: He took drugs, lay moaning on the sofa under a blanket, told me his throat was excrutiating, that he had a really high temperature..........while drinking a couple of pints of beer and eating a takeway curry.

I was astounded.

I have started commenting on the fact that he must be feeling better if he has his appetite for food and booze and so he feigns refusing dinner or says he will TRY some but doesn't hold his breath that he'll manage any and then just eats and drinks as usual.

shirleyc · 19/03/2009 07:42

hahahah all great stories! hedgewitch at least he looked after you when you were ill. If im ill i get told theres nothing wrong

Men - without menflu they wouldn't be as funny! .

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 19/03/2009 07:46

No, my DH doesn't act like this. Because he's a real man. I would not put up with behaviour like this. I don't find it amusing at all.

Bringing them food and drink for a silly cold? Nope, not going to happen.

expatinscotland · 19/03/2009 07:47

Fair enough if you find it amusing. But if DH woke me up at 1.30AM over a cold he'd be wearing his balls for earrings.

sockmonkey · 19/03/2009 07:54

My DH insists the best cure for man-flu is curry? Helps "sweat it out"

Children get colds
Men get flu
Women get on with it.
