I opened a tin of pineapple rings to add to a smoothie I was making.I was a bit surprised to find the contents were actually pineapple chunks they llooked really dry and a bit manky but i put half the tin in anyway.
Later on I chucked the remainder in the compost and began to wash out the tin.
It was then I realised that the tin had actually been cut in half around the middle about half way up and had been held together by the label. the cut was very very neat it hadn't made any dents at all.DH says he thinks it looks like it was done by a large pipecutter.

I am absolutely terrified what has been done to the food .I rang the local police station and they just said take it back to Lidl in the morning !
Would you be concerned ,what would you do or AIBU ?

omg take it straight back to Lidl and make sure u take photos of the tin from all angles thats absolutely horrendous!!! Dont just accept a token £5 gesture from them this is seriously danger to public health.

I doubt if it was food tampering. Far more likely to be a problem on the production line. I would take it back to Lidl or if you prefer go straight to Trading Standards who will investigate fully.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 16/03/2009 21:28

It's probably just a problem with the canning process.

Don't actually know anything about this process but maybe it went wrong so it ended up using 2 half cans for a larger one or something.

SobranieCocktail · 16/03/2009 21:28

I think it's extremely unlikely you'd get anything serious off a dodgy tin of pineapple. I doubt it was tampered with...just crap manufacturing.

yep forget lidl go straight to trading standards. you will get full investigation which will be totally unbiased.
