To not expect 3 e-mails from the same freecycler within the space of 1 hour!

I posted last night and received an instant reply. I would have offered her the items if it wasn't for the further 2 e-mails asking me whether they had gone yet! Oh, I've just got another one today!

I'm not chained to my computer and it's hardly fair on those who don't check their e-mail as regularly as some! Give us a chance!

It is annoying, I have had this when DH wanted to freecyle one of his guitars. Had loads of reply's but DH wanted it to go to someone who wanted it for a child. The amount of reply's I got saying 'oh I'll have that where are you' and the ones who just keep emailing you about the same thing.

I got 'told off' by one freecycler as he had emailed me twice about the guitar and I had not got back to him

littlebellsmum · 15/03/2009 20:40

I hope you told that frecycler where to get off - I have a blacklist folder of people not to offer too. Partly people who don't turn up or are just plain rude. They are getting something for nothing - I don't expect ever lasting gratitude but a thank you would be nice
And no, Boogiewoogie, you are definetly not being unreasonable!

insertwittynicknameHERE · 15/03/2009 20:53

Thats it littlebellesmum, a thankyou would be nice, but some are so rude. I picked up a carpet and underlay today from a lady who had a new one fitted (this one looks brand new to me TBH) and I took her a bottle of wine and a thank you card. Also a foot spa that I had put on freecycle that she asked to be considered for (of course I was going to give it to her)

A little bit of courtesy goes a long way IMO.

YANBU!!!!!

I freecycled a Mamas and Papas pramette recently and when the woman came to collect it, she started inspecting it and asking why I wasn't giving her the carseat as well (she could see the carseat in my garage)

I told her I still wanted that and she just huffed, took the pram and turned on her heels.

I was VERY mad with her!!

littlebellsmum · 16/03/2009 20:07

People like that give Freecycle a bad name - black list her!

ConnieComplaint · 16/03/2009 20:19

I had a guy email last week wanting an item I had on offer.

I said he could have it & when suited him to pick it up.

He replied with a short "Ring me to sort pickup my number is xxxxxxxxxxx"

So I thought I have four other people looking for this item..they can come when I need them to, they have asked for my number to sort out pick up... f**k him!!

Why do these people get so ignorant? He seemed to think I had damn all to do but text/call him!!

Mind you, that's nothing compared to the time I said a man could have a baby bath... he give me his mobile number... I even called him & I drove miles out of my way to meet him with the bath....you know what he said???? "Oh....I thought it was BRIGHT blue"

But then you get lovely freecyclers...like the lady who give me a box of sweets 'cos I give her a car seat...

or the lady who give ds a toy when we took some old clothes to her... or the other lady who was gardening when I went to pick up an old table..we stayed for coffee & cake & came home with our arms full of plants/slips of plants from her garden!!

chegirl · 16/03/2009 20:51

Freecylers or Freeloaders

I tried it for a bit but have to admit it drove me mad. I am sure there are lovely people out there, I just never met any of them

PrammyMammy · 16/03/2009 20:56

Some people really let freecycle down i think. It is such a shame because it is a great idea.
I offered an item and agreed on someone to come and collect it. We agreed on a time and they turned up promptly, but it was a man, not the 'laura' i expected. Anyway it was a pushchair and he asked me to show him how to fold/unfold, so i did. He made a comment on my chest and asked if he was going to get 'a show' DS was hungry and grabbing at my top. He was so strange.
I picked up some baby bedding from a couple and they were so lovely! Offered me tea and gave ds a little halloween pumpkin toy.

Scary. YANBU, they must REALLY want your item. You should email them back and say once was enough but it is now gone. cheeky.

Flibbertyjibbet · 16/03/2009 21:05

My first time on freecycle put me off so much I never went back.
Replied to and ad for and was offered an aerobics step and trampoline thingy.
I was online in the day, giver at nights. I said

'thankyou please let me know your address and when best to come'
logged on the next day to find:

'come tomorrow after 6'
'thankyou let me know the address and I'll be there'

Next day I had a STINKING email from her ranting about shitty freecyclers that don't turn up and saying she'd blacklisted me! I've never been back to it since.

Natt82 · 16/03/2009 21:21

I swear theres a secret group in our freecycle that get the emails before anyone else - I've lost count of the number of times I get the Offered & Taken emails at the same time. I've almost given up going for anything now as its always gone within about 3 minutes.

Have had some lovely people picking stuff up from us though, like our bed and mattress and some kiddie clothes.

I would say YANBU to be a little annoyed, 3 emails within an hour is amazingly bad. I;ve done 2 once - but that was because I forgot to say I could pick up an item if needed that day(but it had already gone surprise surprise)
