She called our DS spoilt on xmas day as he was crying everytime she tried to pick him up. He was 7 months old, and he's very independent, but also, DP and I work our arses off and don't really have time for visits- we visit people as much as we can- and she makes no effort to see DS out of principle as she thinks we should take him to hers most days. We simply don't have time to do this.

Anyway, it just seems to be insult after insult.

Tonight, I was talking to DP's cousin on Facebook and she said 'oh nan said you can come here. All the family are at her house. She forgot to ask you- so she's just asked me to ask you.'

At 9pm when baby is in bed.

Is that not just rude?

Oh and she knows that I'm off Saturday Sunday (which is usually spent on marking, and doing things I don't get time to do all week) then DP finishes work at 5.30 and we have Saturday night and Sunday together- so we could have attended her 'gathering' tonight if we'd known about it.

She's probably just a bit dim and has forgotten that babies are very clingy at 7 months and have a proper bedtime...I wouldn't attribute any malice to it myself.

sazzerbear · 14/03/2009 21:31

It seems like you've had a lucky escape not to have to go! It's easy to say (I have MIL who says/does some odd things) but i'm sure you've got better things to worry about so just ignore it - you can choose your friends but not your family!

MumOfBaby · 14/03/2009 21:32

Well I'm still upset about her calling him spoilt from xmas as he's a lovely kid if she bothered to get to know him, and he's not spoilt at all.

But my anger for tonight is that I feel like she expects us to go over but she can't even remember to invite us IYSWIM.

sazzer- very true! She's nana in law and considers herself 'head of the family'. I see myself and my DP as head of ours IYSWIM.

A recipe for clashing, if ever there was 1!

How old is she? she is probably of the generation were babies were on strict routines, put in the pram in the garden for 4 hours a day, only fed 4 hours a day and never cuddled in case you made a rod for your own back (whatever that is).

Consequently anybody over the age of 70 thinks all babies are spoilt.

Ignore her.

TweetleBeetle · 14/03/2009 21:46

Just say that would be lovely but unfortunately we can't baby is already asleep and we've had a glass of wine so can;'t drive.

Don't really see the problem

MumOfBaby · 14/03/2009 21:47

OMG

God forbid babies don't want to be held by weirdo old ladies (as emphasised by my 5 yr old {grin})

My 6 m.o freaks even with his DGM cos he's in love with his Daddy at the mo.

They're only babies for 5 mins, bloody indulge them!!!

thisisfunny · 14/03/2009 22:25

I thought your DP was already out on the piss tonight?

MumOfBaby · 15/03/2009 10:47

He was- which was why I was in such a grump about it. If she'd invited us he might not have been going out. You can see from my other thread why I was worried.

Calmed down about it all today though.
