to want to use savings to go to the Micheal Jackson concert?

I rarely go out, drink etc and we rarely spend time together without the dcs. I have only ever been to 1 concert before and am now 34yrs.
I want to buy tickets with savings (200 quid each) for DH and I to go. We didn't buy Valentines gifts and will be doing nothing on our anniversary in April.
So AIBU to want to do this? I loved the music when I was young and would have loved to see him live then and feel its a once in a lifetime opportunity.
DH response was yeah yeah yeah and we can use the savings because you will be back working (with a hint of sarcasm for good measure)......why not.

Don't get me wrong btw, he doesn't wear the trousers! We have a leg each LOL He is just to prudent with money to enjoy things. I would happily get a pony for dd1 instead. He hates spending!

I wouldn't cross the road to see him. I don't get the appeal at all* and that's before all his suspect paying off of children and their families.

*excluding Jackson 5 stuff

Sorry but got to say this.. If you have £13k savings you do seem to have the spare funds to do something about this right now. It sounds like hainvg or being able to ride a horse is very important to you. Can you use any of the money you have to make something happen? Are you riding at all at the moment? Could you get a part share of a horse if not buy one outright. Apologies if this idea is impractical - I dont know much about horse so am just throwing this idea out to you...

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:13

ATM its more time than money thats the problem with a horse. I start a course in a few weeks and am hoping to do HV training in Sept which will be full time plus placements. I just wouldn't have time to exercise it/take dcs to it yet. Once I train I will hopefully work P/T so will have time Dutch warmbloods need loads of exercise and shoes etc. Hard feed not just grass iyswim- expensive

Yes. Am watching Comic Relief at the mo and just think if you have spare cash it should go to Comic Relief.
But I am probably BU about that too.

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:14

The other issue is that my ankle is injured atm as well, which isn't good for riding

thumb YANBU but I do get irritated about all the other countries plight having more profile than UK kids. I think charity begins at home.

OP posts:
Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:17

But that is a different thread. The Government has billions in a charity fund. They could donate at anytime to any charity but choose not to.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 14/03/2009 01:19

But comic relief is about UK kids/people too - that's one of the reasons I like it.

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:26

I know it is, but most of tonights programme has been spent telling us to buy mosquito nets. What about our children in prostitution? on drugs? families on drugs? Neglected? We have so many who aren't mentioned

I was lucky enough to see him on the Dangerous tour at Wembley stadium. Well I thought I was lucky but looking back it was no big thing.

Now looking at him I would say it's too much of a risk to buy a ticket he looks a mess, which isn't good regardless of how good his music was.

Look for something really special and luxurious that will be special for you and DH. Spa weekend, Westend break, log cabbin four poster bed and hot tub etc, etc. Much better than Jacko IMO and experience

philopastry · 14/03/2009 01:27

Sorry to hear about the ankle.

So - bearing in mind the HV training and p/t lifestyle that awaits when might you be able to own and exercise a warm blood? Is it something you could aim to do in say 2 years? Or would it be a bit longer? Will it ever be possible?

Do you get to go riding at all at the moment? If bnot can yo start to look into doing this? It sounds like it is really important to you and you do have some money to throw at this passion of yours, use it!

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:27

Anyway I must go to bed. Thats a whole other thread really.

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 01:31

I know I am being unreasonable LOL. A spa weekend it will be I know just the hotel!
A warmblood would be ok once my girls are 6/8 and are big enough, so long as it is soft mouthed and won't run off with them

philopastry · 14/03/2009 01:35

I am gettting myself to bed now. G'night.

philopastry · 14/03/2009 17:27

Dilly I forgot to say last night - Have a lovely time on your spa break

lou222 · 14/03/2009 21:11

dilly you talk about our children in prostitution, drugs, neglected
but you want to go and see a man who has young children sleeping in his bed???
open your eyes

Dillydaydreamer · 14/03/2009 21:57

Depends what you believe about that really doesn't it. He has never been prosecuted.convicted of any offence and my personal view is that the boys mother was a money grabber. If there was any possibility that he was guilty his own children would be nowhere near because ss would dig until they found something.

OP posts:
lou222 · 15/03/2009 17:19

yeah and o j simpson was innocent aswell was he?
whether he was prosecuted or not he admitted to having young boys sleeping in bed with him
this is not ok whatever spin you try and put on it.

MrsMattie · 15/03/2009 17:22

I am going, so admittedly I am biased.

GO

I love these huge events. I always try to be part of them. It's hugely fun and exciting.

Let all the moany old bints stay at home talking about it/reading about it in the paper etc.

Live a little

mumeeee · 15/03/2009 22:46

YABU, £400 is far to much to spend on concert tickets. Where were you going to get them from? The official tickets have all sold out.

mayorquimby · 16/03/2009 10:30

"yeah and o j simpson was innocent aswell was he"

well no oj simpson was later found guilty in a civil trial ( a decision which still sits badly with me,not because i believe in his innocence but i do believe it's a bad precedent for the weight a criminal judgment should carry) which is why papers can legally refer to him as a murderer etc.

NotPlayingAnyMore · 16/03/2009 12:13

YANBU - or rather, you would not have been unreasonable - if it were in his heyday.

Personally I wouldn't want to see someone with such a sad and severe body image problem that it's very unlikely he'll even take off his sunglasses indoors to let you see his eyes, let alone to pay for such a freak show and I'd think YABU to expect your DH would either, but if that's your idea of fun, then go for it
