to send late thank you cards

DD's birthday was 5 weeks ago. After the event I wrote thank you cards for her various presents. Put pile by door to post (mainly to elderly friends of MiL who I've never even met but always send something).

Some time later I notice the cards have gone and "assume" DH has posted them (he goes past the post box on his way to work so usually takes any letters to post).

Today I have found them still at home. Something got put on top of them and then moved and hence they were never posted.

Is it completely ridiculous to post them now? Should I add a note on the back to the effect of "terribly sorry, got misplaced and weren't posted". Or do I just appear very rude and not send them at all?

Late is better than not at all IMO

Better late than never I think. (I hope so anyway, 'cos DS has been carrying some of his around in his bookbag for about a month)

I would rather send late than not at all. And you've just reminded me that DS2's birthday was three weeks ago and I haven't done notes yet. Must do it!

How will people know that they didn't get stuck at the bottom of a postperson's sack, or in a post office somewhere, for 5 weeks? The unreliability of Royal Mail can sometimes come in useful... I would just post them and say no more. As everyone else says, better late than never.

Ach just post them and then act surprised when people say that they just got them - which is obv. odd as you posted them at least a month ago!

Definitely better late than never. I sent some of our wedding thank yous so late that people assumed it was a Royal Mail feck up
