To be so angry at the sun for name-calling the teen shooter?

I am so angry.

I just want to start by saying I do not condone school massacres, shooting people for whatever reason, I have little sympathy for shooters ...

But ... I stupidly read the suns version of events and after I read the bit where the kid was bullied, laughed at and ridiculed ... the journalist went on to say

"The wierdo had snarled ... "

Don't the idiots realise it is exactly this kind of name-calling that pushes unbalanced teens over the edge???

I'll probably get flamed here ... but I am NOT sympathising with the shooter. I am just annoyed at the way they give bullying as a possible reason and then go on to describe the kid as a wierdo.

Yes, the idiots do realise, but they don't care. They don't give a shit, they just want to sell newspapers. Headlines are what matter - the consequences are "not their responsibility". Oh, that's all right then?

Rollmops · 13/03/2009 10:33

Sun is not a newspaper.[rolls eyes]
To have 'little sympathy for shooters' is a little too much .
Being bullied is not an excuse for killing innocent people. End of the stort [very very angry].

Rollmops · 13/03/2009 10:34

Story even, as I said , very very angry over such comments.

2shoes · 13/03/2009 10:41

so what was if not a weirdo

ScottishMummy · 13/03/2009 10:47

well,from SUN i wouldnt expect a balanced psycho-social debate,it is a comic really

screamingabdab · 13/03/2009 15:07

Blimey "Sun in ignorant, inflamatory story shock!"

YANBU, but I would not touch the Sun with a bargepole

wannaBe · 13/03/2009 15:09

I think weirdo is mild in the circs.

Scum who deserves to wrot in hell would be more appropriate imo.

2shoes · 13/03/2009 15:35

lol wannabe

OrmIrian · 13/03/2009 15:39

Agree with you.

Sensationalising it does no good to anyone. 'Weirdos' don't appear out of nowhere, they are made by the society they grow up in.

MorrisZapp · 13/03/2009 15:47

I hate newspapers who use words like sickening, scum, beast, weirdo etc - not to mention words like decent, hard-working etc.

In a news story, just tell us what happened thanks, and we'll decide what the appropriate response is. By all means include quotes or allow coumnists full vent, but don't use judgemental words when reporting facts.

Bonkers Bruno, anybody?

ScottishMummy · 13/03/2009 17:44

but all news is reported in an emotive descriptive, judgemental manner.the rub is whether or not you agree with the judgemental words used

consider this case of this shooting

non judgemental would be

several school children fatalities as a result non accidental shooting.

liberal/left wing will report the background and social demographics of killer.seek to understand reasons

the SUN - internet freak loner massacres schoolmates

we seek out paper sympathetic and echoing of our judgements and sentiments eg i don't read the SUN or MAIL

when threads start on MN the Mail is so judgemental what is meant is it is making judgemental stance i don't agree with.for example if the MAIL were to say many immigrants work hard and contribute skills to the economy, that would be a favourable judgment of the situation

diedandgonetodevon · 13/03/2009 17:53

YANBU but that will teach you not to read that comic The Sun
