to expect the hospital doctors to know what they're doing?

Dd had stomach pain in the early hours of Monday morning, and then vomited, just once. Since then, over the next 3 days, she has had localised tummy pain on the right of her belly button.

So last night, I was reading about appendicitis and got all panicked, phoned nhs direct and they sent me to out of hours docs, who got her admitted into hospital.

We were finally discharged at about 3.30 this afternoon, we've had blood tests, ultrasounds, urine samples.... nothing.

So the hospital have just called And the consultant has told me that she was discharged by a different team, and she didn't know dd had been discharged until now

And I have to take her back in the morning, because this team don't think she should have been discharged.

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

fecking idiots. No advice, apart from keep a beady eye on her, watch for spiking temp and administer fluids. Take her back in the morning, and complain!!!

Get well soon to your DD x

It's lack of communication rather then the doctors. It happens in every organisation.

I would moan aswell though, try not to worry, if it was urgent they would have told you to take her right back. They would have filled in forms and reported all this to the bosses aswell so it will be looked into.

SerendipitousHarlot · 12/03/2009 22:11

Thanks

I obviously went to check on her just now like this but she is so much better tonight than she was last night. She's had painkillers and needs a good night's sleep after last night.

I can't do another night in there, I just can't

what is important is that consultant recalled her.so she will get seen again and further investigations

you can complain use PALS

i imagine your immediate priority is dd well being

unfortunately communication errors happen.staff aren't fucking idiots, but they are human.but as a parent your child is your priority not procedural/communication cock up's

hope this resolves well

scrooged · 12/03/2009 22:20

It's alright. I understand.

You deserve your own room after all the problems

SerendipitousHarlot · 12/03/2009 22:24

Hehehe scrooged, now there's a thought

SM, oh I understand alright. I have nothing but praise for the people that have looked after her, they were fab.

I was just a bit shocked, it made me panic that she was calling to tell me something dreadful.

That's completely understandable. You should complain, it will stop this happening to another family.

ScottishMummy · 12/03/2009 22:27

completely understand your panic.i was noting a previous response.hospital does render one more passive there is a leap of faith.hoping someone else can fix it

do ask them to complete a review though

take care

SerendipitousHarlot · 12/03/2009 22:29

A massive leap of faith SM, very well put. I hate not being able to fix it myself, it makes me feel inadequate and therefore vulnerable, kwim?

OP posts:
ScottishMummy · 12/03/2009 22:32

that's why hosp is such a fraught experience.someone else looking after your loved one.naturally, makes you feel vulnerable, angry, helpless, scared.

other way to see this is system worked and detected her dc,and rectified it

Quattrocento · 12/03/2009 22:33

Unreasonable? No. Unrealistic, maybe ...
