I think I have been a tad unreasonable, wondered what you fellow MNetters would do.

I drive the same boring road every day to work - takes an hour. From country roads, onto a single carriage A road, to dual carriageway.

This morning - after being tailed for 15 or so miles bumper to bumper by a bloomin white van with 2 leering inhabitants, I was a tad furious.

Then once on dual carriageway they proceeded to over take me (that's fine) but then swap lanes and swerve irratically through traffic. Not really making any progress through rush hour traffic, but causing a great deal of braking and swerving by other drivers. (I hung back and observed... getting further narked)

Moving over into the right lane to allow joining traffic from a slip road merge, the van then booted it down the left hand lane undertaking a string of cars, then nearly smashed into cars joining and created such a bloomin panic, as they were then between two cars and stuck

So when I got to work I called the company - that had been sign written all over van and asked to speak to boss - which I did.

He sounded a little freaked out, I was polite and conveyed my concerns, then he told me to call the police if I was the "fucking bothered"...

Did I do some thing really wrong?

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 18:12

No but the "boss" sounds a knobhead! YADNBU.
It was probably him driving!!

Hawkmoth · 11/03/2009 18:13

I've done that, and a similar response. Arsewipes, the lot of them.

OnlyWantsOne · 11/03/2009 18:14

It wasn't him driving... luckily cringe - I asked first.

I just couldn't believe how these muppets didn't cause a major pile up.

Plus, they were smoking in a work vehicle (feel like an old tell tale now)

I received a call like that once when in transport: the driver got a bollocking. Any decent company would do the same. I would report it to the police.

kellykateneedsaholiday · 11/03/2009 18:29

no you done nothing wrong. ive phoned a couple of companys because of company van /car /lorry drivers bad/ dangerous driving.
Ive never been unlucky enough to have got abuse of the companies though. One of them was a council van that was wheel spinning and hand brake turning outside my house with children playing football next to him. His manager phoned us to get more details etc and he was removed from driving for a period of time.
The last time was a company van that almost wrote of dhs company van by changing lanes without checking if anyone was there. dh phoned the company and as soon as he said he was on the M8 motorway the bad drivers boss said "thats it, hes getting disciplinary action as they said it wasnt the first time it had happened."

Those knobends that drive like that dont even have the commonsense to realise that there phone number is written on their vans.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 11/03/2009 18:29

I was just thinking this this afternoon as DS and I nearly got ploughed down on a zebra crossing by an evening standard van. YANBU at all and at the boss' reaction.

Janos · 11/03/2009 18:33

Maybe you should call the police. What a twat.

I don't want to call the police as I feel slightly like a time waster. I'm frankly just baffled by it.

I did call Anglian Water before about one van, and they were very happy to have been told and phoned me back a few weeks later to (smugly) tell me that the driver I had told them about had written off his van he was ok though, but apparently - calmed down a bit after.

I had a car accident last year (it was my fault) and was sent on a driver improvement scheme course. Since then I seem to notice lots more on the roads, and see accident possibilities and scenarios before they occour and get away from the situation. Well worth the money.

I complained about someone's driving once and the company was less than helpful - they couldn't care less....What I hadn't mentioned was that the company I worked for employed their company for some plumbing jobs....and I was in a position to choose who we used. I took great delight in telling them we would not be requiring them again as I felt we should use a more reputable company with a greater concern for health and safety than they seemed to demonstrate...

elvislives · 11/03/2009 18:46

I once complained to a coach company whose driver tried to shove me off the road. They were less than interested.

n5rje · 11/03/2009 18:52

I once complained about a speeding lorry and the company were very good - called me back and said he'd had a written warning. If more people complained then maybe the message would get through and, where possible, tell them you won't use their company in the fiture. YANBU

MsSparkle · 11/03/2009 18:54

I had this last Friday! I couldn't get through when i tried to phone and was no way leaving my name and number for them to get back me.

The company in question was; The IT Company that are based in Poole, Dorset. Gits!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 11/03/2009 19:07

YANBU - if more people did this the roads might be a bit safer. Would not bother calling the police now tho' they will not want to do the paperwork.

Insanity · 11/03/2009 19:07

I have complained a few times and always got a positive response.
One was a Kitchen fitter company and I said I wouldnt reccomend them due to the fact that the units would all be smashed up before they were even fitted.
He sounds a right idiot!
Maybe write a letter of complaint headed to the Director of the company. It may have been the manager you spoke to but I am sure there is someone above him that may be interested in what happened?

I called the police once about a car that was driving dangerously - it didn't have any company markings but I just gave them the registration number. They were great, although they couldn't press charges as it was just my word, they found out it was a fleet car so identified his employer and had a word with them to put the wind up him and hopefully make him more careful in future!

MoshiMoshi · 11/03/2009 22:07

No, not being unreasonable. Responsible yes.

Shitemum · 11/03/2009 22:09

I had parcels delivered a couple of times by the same driver from a transport company. Both times he was reeking of brandy.

I didn't report it but wish I had.

This was in Spain by the way, it's another planet here...

HumphreyCobbler · 11/03/2009 22:12

YANBU.

It makes me furious to see how badly people drive down country lanes especially. Courier vans are the worst offenders. I recently had a car written off by someone driving far too fast on a wet day, down a single lane track. He tried to stop, failed and hit my STATIONARY car.

The worst thing was as there were no witnesses I ended up paying.

OnlyWantsOne · 12/03/2009 18:05

Humphrey that's terrible

I don't feel bad at all now.
