You were on your last day at work before a years maternity leave, and your boss didn't bother to come and say goodbye before leaving for the day?

I'm quite annoyed!

Yes, very rude.

themoon66 · 11/03/2009 17:01

I'd assume she/he was busy working. I wouldn't give a shit.

HairyMuff · 11/03/2009 17:01

Yes I would
What an ignoramus.

southeastastra · 11/03/2009 17:02

happened to me last day, company was relocating and everyone went to see the new office. left me alone. i was part time so just went home. not even a card.

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2009 17:02

probably kicking him/herself in the car now

compo · 11/03/2009 17:02

yes
yanbu
is your boss always that crap?

myredcardigan · 11/03/2009 17:04

Yes, probably a little. But I'd assume he was busy/stressed and it slipped his mind rather than take it as a personal insult.

In all honesty, he probably completely forgot. Alternatively, he may be on his way back with the enormous bunch of flowers.

Enjoy your mat leave!

TheCrackFox · 11/03/2009 17:14

YANBU, but living in the UK you have to accept that there are an awful lot of crap bosses out there.

I'm sure it'll happen to me. I will just sigh. I had to text my boss to tell him the happy news. He rang back, three weeks later, although to be fair I was off sick.

EsmeWeatherwax · 11/03/2009 21:59

Well, thats just it, we are very friendly normally, and she's a great boss! So I'm quite hurt really. And it wasn't that she was busy working, she was sitting in her office chatting then she buggered off home!

Still...I'm off for a year. Maybe she's jealous, lol!

It is very telling about your boss's feelings about you taking time off for mat leave isn't it? I had three DC while still working and the usual flowers to celebrate baby's arrival did not appear after DC3. The bunch after DC2 were great and the send off before DC1 was really heartfelt too. Not surprising really but working mums are the bane of a workplace's life unfortunately. It's just a fact of life and not anybody's fault that there is an unreconcilable divergence in interests between the working parent and the functioning business. All of those maternity rights they have to consider in the run up to baby's arrival, the time off with a job being kept open for year after baby's arrival and then that flexible working they have to accommodate when the working mum returns to work....

EsmeWeatherwax · 11/03/2009 22:16

Moshi, Before I ever got pg or even wanted to, she was very scathing about mothers and work issues in general, of the why can't I have a year off brigade, but she was great during my last pregnancy, and has been very good this time round too.

So you must be quite hurt that she seemed to forget about your last day? Sorry to hear about it and I hope it doesn't leave a bad taste with you if she has been so good about the pregnancy. People can be funny about these things and I think it is hard to see how they can act so diiferently and "forget" you are pregnant/leaving for mat leave when it is such a major thing in your life. I suppose it would be different if they were the one being pregnant and taking time off and it is just not at the top of their agenda as it is for you. Anyway, don't let it spoil things and enjoy your time off now before baby arrives! How long do you have left to go? Am also due in about 6 weeks! Time to get massaging !
