To be fuming thas DS2 has an appointment for a jab he's already had instead of the one he needs...

I'm so cross. Our regular HV has left and so tis potluck who is covering our local clinics at the mo.

DS2 was due his MMR and pneumococcal booster a few weeks ago. We dutifully went. Warned the HV that DS2 has reflex anoxic seizures in response to pain so would likely have a seizure when jabbed so I wanted her to give the MMR first just in case.

Old HV was brill and managed to do all his previous jabs quickly without him seizing but true to form, new HV faffed, he seized, all very distressing and I refused the second jab and said we'd make a new appointment.

Now I've just had an appointment for another MMR and have just noticed that HV didn't write in his book which jab he actually had so I have no idea if he's protected against MMR or not!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Good grief - I would be apoplectic with rage and I loathe confrontation! You are most certainly not being unreasonable!!

I would make a complaint. Apart from anything else they are supposed to write down the batch numbers and stuff aren't they?

Re: whether he's protected, can they not do an antibody check like they do when you are pg to check if you have antibodies for Rubella? It's a standard test for pg women so I can't imagine it can cost much, and could save you potentially administering the same vaccine twice.

Very unproffesional and negligent behaviour of the H.V.

They'll have a record at the Clinic if you ring asap.because they have to fill in a Child Health Dept.form for their records, even if they haven't filled in your book

Thanks guys I didn't think I was being unreasonable! My biggest worry is that she's filled in her paperwork wrong - told me one thing and written down another.

Going to call her boss this morning and see what she can tell me.

TYV, I thought so too, our old HV used to put the actual package insert into their book. I wouldn't be so worried about the thought of a blood test if it weren't for the seizures

Have you asked to see whether it is in their own notes ? I was once called back because one of the DC had had a jab from a batch which wasn't right andhad to go back for another,

Pheebe · 12/03/2009 12:13

Its all resolved. It was a computer error! He has had his MMR, all the paper work is correct. She's going to get a slap on the wrist for not filling in his red book but now I've calmed down I can sort of understand how a dramatically fainting, momentarily non breathing baby might have made her forget.

Just his pneumo booster to get through now...

Pheebe - problem is sorted - but for future reference, it's not as accurate as a blood test but they can check measles immunity with a mouth swab.

Thanks for the info total
