2shoes Stats don't work like that. I have just passed the 6 month mark for bfing. I took her for her 2nd jabs yesterday and there was a box in her red book about whether she was still bf.

I wasn't even asked!

Notquitegrownup · 11/03/2009 10:19

Snowlight - You need to get this done. It really doesn't take long, but if you don't think that you can leave your 2.3 year old for a few minutes (I know that mine would probably have dismanted a larger part of the surgery in that time) I would drop a note into your GP and explain the situation, and ask their advice as to how you can get a smear test done. If it has to be done on a Tuesday, if you get it done soon, before your dd can crawl, that will obviously help you lots!

ForeverOptimistic · 11/03/2009 10:20

Why do you care so much?

2shoes · 11/03/2009 10:22

cos I do

They say it is for insurance reasons.

Last time I took my very unwell 2.3 DS. We were made to wait 40 mins. By the time we were called he was very miserable and refused to walk. When I insisted he sobbed and screamed and banged his head on the floor. When I went near him he put his hands up to be lifted. He was quite distressed.

I could not pick him up because I was carrying babe. The receptionist refused to hold baby 'for insurance reasons'. Eventually I left screaming headbanging toddler and wen outside to get double buggy and put them boh in it and set off towards the nurse to be tolg by the receptionist with glee:

'You've missed your turn, someone else is in there now, you'll have to wait another 20 mins!'

2shoes · 11/03/2009 10:24

have you got a family planning near, I go there as it is much quicker and more room.

OP posts:
SnowlightMcKenzie · 11/03/2009 10:24

So you see, if there is any way of avoiding the place, I do.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 11/03/2009 10:26

2shoes That's a good idea. Aren't family planning places open in the evenings?

Not sure where my local is, but DH can drive us and wait in the car. Do you have to be in the catchment?

ForeverOptimistic · 11/03/2009 10:29

Its not like people are walking up to you in the street saying "Ooh I hear you have had your smear recently, was it because of Jade Goody?"

Last time I had my smear I don't think I told anyone, I'm not even sure that I mentioned it to dh. So when I do have my next one which incidentally is overdue I don't expect the nurse will ask me if I booked it because of JG and if she does well thats only one person, I'm not going to get annoyed over that!

madwomanintheattic · 11/03/2009 10:29

very common for no prams policy. it's because they get left littered all over the corridors and frail elderly people trip over them/ health and safety issues in a fire etc etc. try doing it with a child in a disabled buggy. 'it's a buggy, it's not allowed in' 'she can't walk - it's like a wheelchair - it's issued by wheelchair services' 'it's a buggy. it's not allowed in' .

i did laugh at the thread title though - it made we want to yell 'we are all individuals!'
'i'm not!'

i have an irrational dislike of trend following, and even something like this would trigger those 'i am not following the herd, see me for who i am' - so i don't think you're that unusual/ individual, really - even if you want to be lol

i didn't see ET for ten years because everyone else was going

DumbledoresGirl · 11/03/2009 10:30

I had a smear (on time) a few weeks ago and the nurse congratulated me for having one, the implication being that a lot of women still weren't bothering with them.

I am not a JG fan, or even particularly interested in her fate, but I would have thought her situation would have brought more women out for their smears. I am amazed so many women are so laid back about the possibility of getting cervical cancer.

2shoes · 11/03/2009 10:31

SnowlightMcKenzie google family planning(add your town)

OP posts:
poopscoop · 11/03/2009 10:32

Does it make any difference whether or not you book it because of JG?

There will be many who have done it because of what this poor woman is going through now. And if that saves lives, it is a good thing.

If you have booked it because you are due one, do you really discuss it with people?

2shoes · 11/03/2009 10:32

ForeverOptimistic how did you not tell your dh, they have to suffer

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 11/03/2009 10:33

Oh sorry, the thread seems to have moved on....

Re taking babies and toddlers in while you have smears - yes I have done that, sat the baby on the couch next to me and left toddler playing on the floor outside the curtain. Also carried many a baby and toddler in one arm each. Pram policy seems ridiculous imo.

2shoes · 11/03/2009 10:36

DumbledoresGirl ahh see maybe that is my problem.
I think i just don't get why wpople miss the, so this thread has already shown me that it can be something as simple as not being able to take your baby with you, as apposed to not bothering.
makes me wonder how many women don't go because of lack of childcare and unhelpful satff.

Simplysally · 11/03/2009 10:41

I have sometimes mentioned it to my bfs that I'm going for a smear and the cringey look on their face tells me everything .

DumbledoresGirl · 11/03/2009 10:42

Well, if I had a surgery like SM's, I can see it could be off-putting.

But, in my mind, becoming a parent is when I stopped taking a cavalier attitude towards my health. I had my first smear after ds1 was born because I suddenly realised I didn't want to die on him because I was too embarrassed to have a smear.

BTW, did I imagine it or did I once read that JG did have smears, but was too frightened to act when told she had abnormal results?

ForeverOptimistic · 11/03/2009 10:44

Lol 2shoes.

I'm overdue because we are ttc and I don't really like the idea of having a smear midcycle when there is a slight possibility that I could be pregnant. If I don't conceive this month I will book an appointment as we are hoping to avoid a christmas baby anyway.

Apologises for this stupid question which demonstrates my complete lack of knowledge of human biology but if I go for a smear and I am pregnant could this increase my chances of miscarrying?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/03/2009 10:52

I'm also pregnant and due my smear. The midwife told me that I'd need to wait until I'd had my 6 week check after baby to book smear......
