Why do most boys clothes have sodding hoods on. every where, Next, Zara, H&M, M&S etc etc.

Stop with the hoods people!!!

If it's cold, we can put at hat on them?

Don't even get me started on all that slogan shite too!

No hoods and no puke making HERE COMES TROUBLE type C R A P!

In M&S today and was AGOG at a pair of 3-4 year old PJ's with a scary looking shark on.

Come on you dimwits!

CC what about something like this

CherryChoc · 21/03/2009 23:49

No I'm not a fan of that either - hoodies should have long sleeves!

nappyaddict · 22/03/2009 22:49

I like them on jumpers, sweatshirts and cardigans but that's it.

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 13:44

I always thoroughly enjoy clothes shopping for my boys and manage to find plenty of outfits I think my boys look adorable in.
Don't really get these boys clothes bashing threads as I do not see a problem . Yes, if I was to buy clothes in one or two shops only, I would complain about limited stock, but there are so many places in any bigger town, not to mention net shopping, that I'm sure anyone could easily assemble a nice wardrobe for their Ds.
Want to add that I am fussy to a point, follow my tastes and enjoy buying what I consider nice clothes , so it's not a case of I would go for anything.
Mums often write it's harder for them because they don't like slogans or characters. I can understand slogans,it's a matter of taste but IMHO mums who seriously dislike characters are selfish as only think of their own personal sense of style but ignore a fact that absolutely most boys up to a certain age( about 9 ) LOVE characters on their clothes. This is my experience as a mum of 3 boys, two of them already in their teens so past the stage. The baby of the family adores his Lightning McQueen t shirt. I look at old pics of my DS1 and DS2 and think - oh yes, I remember how he loved this Pingu/Star Wars( etc) top ! Why not give your DCs that bit more fun in their lives , little pleasures and dress them in what THEY would choose !
Absolutely all tops my 3 year old owns now ( at least 10) are hoodless as I knew hoods are not great to tuck into already hooded winter coat, so I chose sans hood deliberately. Had no problem whatsoever with finding them so really don't get the op. And I shop in high street.
Went to Next last weekend and was spoilt for choice trying to find a light jacket/cardigan to replace my youngest's winter coat. We took ages trying them all on, some had hoods some not, choice of colours, textiles to suit tastes. Ended up buying a cute hoodless sporty jacket in lime/grey.Goes great with a pair of jeans. DS looks adorable.Took ages choosing between bright blue hooded or the non hooded lime one.
On a critical note though,I thought the prices have gone very considerably up in Next, disappointing.
Plus, why oh why 90 per cent of tshirts now are the short sleeve ones? Here lies a real problem ( the season thing ) Ds has just grown out of his previous size, I want to replace some simple long sleeved tops, FGs it's not summer yet!

VeryAnnieMary · 23/03/2009 13:46

D'oh!

AnyFucker · 23/03/2009 14:01

Zara does great clothes for boys, some of the stuff don't have hoods

they do long-sleeved t-shirts too (sans hood)

although I rather like fleecy hoodies, Asda do great ones for 4 quid, they wash like a dream and look cool

WowOoo · 23/03/2009 14:04

DS is well known for his double hoodie look. So annoying but I s'pose keeps his neck warm adn we have plenty of options if it's windy or raining.
He's no good with hats and they fly off in the wind sometimes.

brimfull · 23/03/2009 14:12

chocoalte kitten -your post is ridiculously hard to read you need to use paragraphs .No one will bother to read them like that.

I hate hoods too.Ds like them.

ThePellyandMe · 23/03/2009 14:16

I quite like a sweatshirt to have a hood. Not on t-shirts though, that's just silly.

I bought them a sweatshirt each from Gap yesterday, complete with hoods, they are lovely.

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 14:19

ggirl, thanks

I'm a newbie, it shows

I thought I was making a few paragraphs by starting a new line, but obviously should have left double space.

Sullwah · 23/03/2009 14:22

I have twins. I love hoodies. The idea of carrying two hats as well as everything else fills me with dread

brimfull · 23/03/2009 14:23

no probs

nice spacing btw

DaphneMoon · 23/03/2009 14:30

chocolatekitten, you are incredibly polite and nice to a MN who in my opinion was just very rude about your post! Ggirl please don't criticise other posters typing when yours, to be honest, leaves a lot to be desired!

CMOTdibbler · 23/03/2009 14:38

DH has just bought some lovely (not hooded) boys tops from John Lewis

AnyFucker · 23/03/2009 14:54

daphne, I thought that too but ck took it very well

welcome to MN ck !!

you will find some posters a bit more upfront than others

now me, am always sweetness and light

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 15:11

Thanks for your welcome.

I WAS upset by the tone of ggirl post ( it was the 'ridiculous', not necessary ).

But hey ho , she was right on the subject though, have learned something. And I hope she has, too

And I'm sorry if I upset anyone with my spelling/ grammar/ punctuation but on top of being a new mumsnetter, English is not my first language.

Now, I'm truly excused

nappyaddict · 23/03/2009 15:12

ggirl - why do you hate hoods?

Natt82 · 23/03/2009 15:15

I love boys clothes, which is good considering I have 2 :-)

Boots is good for non-hoodies. And H&M. Just bought DS1 a whole new 3-4 wardrobe from H&M/Primark/Asda/Mothercare and dont think I bought a single hoodie from memory (and I actually like them too, so it wasnt a conscious decision)

and H&M also have some good long sleeved t-shirts - double packs for about £8 I think, some in nice colours too. We rarely get anything with slogans on, but do seem to get a lot of character things now DS is into various TV characters.

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 15:21

Maybe some hate hoods because they ARE a sod to iron ?

They also tend to weigh the top down at the back sometimes putting uncomfortable pressure to the front of the neck and exposing too much of the back to the elements ?

I don't hate hoods myself but can see some people having issues with them.

nappyaddict · 23/03/2009 15:26

Ah wouldn't know about ironing them as I don't.

Latchley · 23/03/2009 15:31

The Vertbaudet catalogue has some good stuff. I also really like H&M where I found the first pair of jeans to actually fit extremely skinny DS; i.e. they didn't have an elasticated waist and nerdy, big, flappy wide legs.

You are right tho', the choice of clothes for boys in most shops is pathetic compared with the racks of stuff available for girls.

AnyFucker · 23/03/2009 16:44

ck, I read and enjoyed your post actually (that was criticised)

to say English isn't your first language, you are doing pretty well, better than lots of people on here

just double space everything, and use short, snappy sentences, long wandering paragraphs tend to get lost you see

TsarChasm · 23/03/2009 16:55

La redoute are very good for boys clothes too. Some with hoods some without there.

Ikwym though. I don't mind the occasional hood or whatever detail, but some shops become obsessed with the same thing and don't offer a choice.

I also hate daft or agressive slogans. My ds has always been tall so we moved away from a nice lion or dinosaur and onto skulls and rap slogans fairly quickly. Well we didn't, but it got harder to find stuff without it.

TheProvincialLady · 23/03/2009 17:28

"a nice lion or dinosaur"
