Hi everyone. My name is Amy King, I am chair of The Front Page Campaign. I'd like to answer some of these questions/accusations! And I'd like to say, if anyone actually wants to know anything, please contact us directly via our site.

We are a new, but legally constituted NON-PROFIT organisation. It is run completely by volunteers. The £5 is spent on campaign running costs such as printing of literature/posting/AGM room hire etc. Nobody benefits financially and in fact we give up a lot of our time for free. Everyone who pays £5 will receive a copy of the annual accounts so this will be proved!!

Basically, what we are about it that we want newspapers and mags age-rated, and porn out of sight in public places to protect kids. Object have a much wider remit but we are working together with them.

The government will not have access to our list, nor will anyone else, as stated in our data protection notice.

Sorry that some of you don't like the site - most people do though, and it's working.

The campaign is gaining momentum already with 350 supporters and 460 odd on Facebook. If you agree, please consider joining the supporter's register. As mentioned by shazzg, it is FREE, and we only use your details to contact you in relation to the campaign.

Any more queries, please do get in touch via www.thefrontpagecampaign.co.uk.

Thanks.

I agree that the website looks a little amateurish, but neverthless, I agree wholeheartedly with its content and have lent my support. I have a DD age 10 and am appalled at the images she freely witnesses whenever we pop in to pay for petrol / buy a drink of juice, etc - to my mind, it sends out a very negative message to children in terms of body image and female sexuality.

Thanks shazzg for raising this.

shazzg - You can't post a question/debate on AIBU and not expect anyone to disagree with you! That's what this is for.

Amy254 - thanks but no thanks.

SilkyDemon · 20/03/2009 16:23

I would be genuinely interested to hear the views of those who disagree with shazzg though. Are there people quite happy for their children to be exposed to porn in this way?

shazzg · 31/03/2009 13:30

silky demon- you only have to read stuff on this thread and others like it to see how strongly people object when you dare to complain about porn in day to day society.

a lot of stuff that would have been classed as porn 20 years ago - is now normal day to day stuff.i find it very sad and very scarey.

look on the object website or the 'f word' for fellow feminist campaigners/supporters.

frazzledgirl · 31/03/2009 16:47

I don't think it's very fair to say that anyone who doesn't want to join your campaign agrees with porn.

Having read the thread, posters seem to be saying that the campaign itself looks rubbish and there are better ones to support. V different thing.

SilkyDemon · 01/04/2009 10:59

Shazzg - I'm always amazed at the response I get when I voice an anti-porn stance, eg that it's just harmless fun, that the women enjoy it, that I'm just jealous since I don't have the body to compete/get involved in it, that men would just have affairs if they couldn't access it, etc etc. I am weary of these arguments, and absolutely terrified that my daughter is growing up in a generation where the pornification of women is accepted as the norm.

Frazzledgirl - my point re the op was that surely even those adults who use and enjoy porn would agree that exposing children to pornographic pictures is wrong?

Gentle · 01/04/2009 11:09

Agree with principle of the campaign, but the posed photo of sad child next to picture of boobs made me ROFL.

frazzledgirl · 01/04/2009 12:47

Yes, SD, and I agree with that and I'm sure most people would.

I just wouldn't bother joining at that campaign because it doesn't look like it'll be effective. Another, better campaign would probably get my vote tho.

V v different propositions.
