To be fair I am pregnant and have custard for a brain but this morning DD (age 10) came in to my room saying she had no clean knickers!

I search high and low and through the various piles of laundry waiting to be put away but finally had to admit defeat, she really didn't have any clean underwear!

I offered her a pair of mine which she turned her nose up at and in the end she had to retrieve the ones she had worn yesterday from the top of the dirty laundry basket and wear them instead. (blush]

I am so ashamed!!! I really need to get my act together

DS went to school with no pants on once on a PE day. He had to borrow school pants! Ewwwww. He claimed that Dh hadn't given him any pants to put on. He's 5.5, he should have realised. It won't do her any harm to wear yesterday's pants.

wilbur · 10/03/2009 09:56

I wouldn't worry - it will do her good to learn that her knickers are not cleaned by the laundry fairies and that perhaps she might help you out with some washing in the future .

bosch · 10/03/2009 09:57

Move over please! Ds1 is always running out of clean pants but as he fits into Ds2's pants, I get away with it! And I don't have the excuse (?) of being pg. Just crapeola!

memoo · 10/03/2009 09:59

ah ladies you make me feel so much better!

Wilbur you are right that DD needs to learn that there are no such thing as laundry fairies!

Dont worry about it memoo, that happens quite regularly in my house. Trying now to get into the habit of writing down what I need for the next day, to make sure I have them washed

wilbur · 10/03/2009 10:04

I think it's a lesson most children need to learn. Ds1 is convinced that his cubs uniform will miraculously clean itself (and sew on its badges) even when it is wedged down the back of his chest of drawers. Sigh.

Stayingsunnygirl · 10/03/2009 10:05

We have a very inefficient laundry fairy in this house - sometimes only one pair of ds3's boxers make it into the wash.... - not sure if that blush should be me or ds3, though!

wilbur · 10/03/2009 10:11

A laundry fairy for us all

Stayingsunnygirl · 10/03/2009 10:18

Oops - that should read 'only one pair of ds3's boxers a week make it into the wash....' I really should preview before I hit Post Message.

memoo · 10/03/2009 10:23

sunnygirl!

Thanks Wilbur, I want one!

i have shown my 10yrold dd how to use the washing machine so that if she sees the washing piling up, she can put a load on for me.

There have been weeks whan I have been so busy with work and she has put on an odd load (I think 2 or 3 now), them tumble dried everything, folded it all nicely and then put a nice, neat pile at the end of everyone's bed.

She is a star!

PlumBumMum · 10/03/2009 11:32

memoo when she comes home today getting her working on that clean washing pile

Stayingsunnygirl · 10/03/2009 11:50

Your dd sounds like a total star, Paula!! Could she come and spend some time with my dses so that it rubs off on them, please?

missblythe · 10/03/2009 11:52

Does she do ironing, Paula? Send her round, please

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 11/03/2009 12:27

she keeps asking if she can do the ironing but i don't want her to get burnt

She really can be an absolute dream of a child.

That's why I get so frustrated when we have au pairs that can't do it. If a 10 yr old can, surely a grwon woman can?

squilly · 11/03/2009 13:01

I'm pretty darned crapeola, but have only had 8 years to practise. I'm looking forward to developing my crappy SAHM parenting skills even more over the next 2 years...and I don't have pg as an excuse either. Or any other children even. Or stress of any kind!

And I wonder why my DD always yells down, Dad, can you wash my skinny jeans for me tonight, instead of Mum, can you blah blah blah!

I have kilimanjaroo for an ironing pile. Does that count at all???

standanddeliver · 11/03/2009 14:16

I don't do ironing.

And I 'air' my dss' socks on the radiator so they can get two days wear out of each pair.

Have stopped sniffing dd's pants to see whether they can be recycled though, but only in the last year (she's nearly 10 and a bit hormonal now - won't be sniffing her scanties again as it's getting a bit heave making).

I like to think that I am doing my bit for the planet reducing the amount of unnecessary washing in my household.

ChippingIn · 11/03/2009 14:32

Oops - ack well, wont hurt her!! Maybe she can spend a weekend with Paula and she can get her trained up!!

Paula, what a little star you have created there!! I bet she's better than any DH at the sorting too

I don't mind doing the laundry, but LO's (3 & 22 months) put their laundry in the washing box - nothing like starting them early - while they are keen to 'help'!! The 3 year old also knows that knickers, vest and tights go in the wash everyday, without question so just puts them there and I check the other things (jeans, skirts etc to see if another wear is possible, sometimes manage 2 wears out of an item - but not often!).

I hate ironing though [big URGH emoticon]

ChippingIn · 11/03/2009 14:36

Oh and of course YABU....

You can't win 'Most Crapeola Mum' just for not providing clean knickers one day....

Stayingsunnygirl · 11/03/2009 16:59

You're absolutely right, ChippingIn - not really crap enough at all, frankly!
Crapeola Mum class report March 2009.

Effort B++, Attainment B-.

Memoo tries hard, and interacts well with the rest of the class, and this is reflected in her effort grade. However, we would like to see more consistency in her efforts - a sustained level of achievement in this subject is far more valuable than single bursts of brilliance.
