to want baby boys' jeans/dungarees to be as soft as the girls' ones?

I'm just bemused - why on earth do manufacturers think that parents of baby boys want to put them into stiff, unlined denim, yet the jeans and denim dungarees for girls are soft as butter and usually lined?

DS is 12 m and I'm at a loss to find nice lined denim for him (apart from a pair of dungarees from Sainsboros, and the poppers were so crap they just came apart as soon as he moved, so they went back). Why are we expected to want to chafe our small sons' thighs on stiff, unlined fabric, whereas girls get lovely soft trousers?

Why yes, he is my PFB, since you ask. Your point?

Very good point! I hate the choice of boys' clothing. Very boring and all the same.

Also, why do baby girls vests have 2 poppers, yet boys ones have 3?

I've only even known H&M to do lined dungerees.

Girl vests have two poppers?? (I have no girls) Blimey, news to me. Maybe they think that a small boy's willy is so wayward that it's liable to escape the nappy and run free without the extra popper?

Will check out H&M, ta!

i bought some lovely lined soft jeans from sainsbury's.

i myself am on a quest to find t shirts that don't have construction tools and vehicles on. They are so macho , they are completely camp!

noonki · 07/03/2009 21:58

Yanbu

but at least they are going to have some obligatory pink or purple on them!

Danish boyswear is fantastic. Katvig, Molo etc (I get mine in the sale at www.thehedgepig.co.uk, which is a bit better value than Nordic Kids, or on Ebay second-hand, because they're also miserably expensive). Bright colours and sooooo soft, and no nasty logos/khakis. And they wash brilliantly and stay looking great, too - Monsoon has lovely baby wear, but they start to look manky quite fast, which is unacceptable at those prices. H&M is great as well, and cheap enough that the wear and tear is less of a big deal.

I hate the idea of putting a tiny baby in stiff, scratchy clothes, and as a friend with 3 feels exactly the same, I don't think it's pfb. I mean, they sleep so much - and who in their right mind wants to sleep in thick denim dungarees? And their skin's a lot thinner, and they're smaller, so it must be even less comfortable sleepwear than for an adult. I saw a baby that has to have been under 3 months in a leather aviation jacket and jeans the other day. I was just - poor, poor child.

Kalo, I did find some nice denim dungarees at Sainsburys, but the poppers were so shite they popped apart at the slightest pressure, and DS ended up flashing his music group last week! I returned them. Shame, I liked them and they didn't have a single tractor on (only a small monster).

The issue of small boys' clothes being plastered with the clunkiest macho images possible is a WHOLE other topic, one I'll save for another rant! Will look for Molo things on ebay, because I know how much the stuff costs new!

Noonki - the t-shirts in Boots for baby boys currently have 'Boys will be Boys' on them, which made me see red. FFS, what does that even MEAN, anyway?!

DS, at one year, has yet to own any denim and I feel a bit precious about this, but after fingering the rows of unyielding, armoured trousers in M&S this afternoon, I just hate the idea of putting him into those things. Also hate the sight of tiny babies crammed into jeans!

I have 3 boys, and long for soft clothing.

I only know about the 2 poppers as have a neice.

fledtoscotland · 07/03/2009 23:16

primark has soft lined boys jeans at the moment. tbh their boys clothes are usually really good and all the trousers (DS1 wears their combats) are lined and none of the tops have tractors/cars/lorries etc.

they do however have tops with "rascal", "hyperactive" etc on that are quite cute and appropriate to my monster.

have never heard of two poppers for girls as have two boys.

one day they will wear levis!
the softest i ever found, was a really comfy grow! even cut the feet off so he could move them and spread those lovely little toes out!

PrammyMammy · 07/03/2009 23:34

I have a really soft pair of lined, denim dungarees from Next. They have a little dog on them with a tale that hangs free. I have a few pair of lined, soft jeans from Next too. I have another pair of lined dungarees from Gap in size 6-12 and they still seem huge on my 15mo - but i have scratchy Gap denim too so the dungas were a lucky find i think.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/03/2009 00:24

I have found Molo things in TKMaxx before now - £5 instead of £25 for a t-shirt. Does anyone pay full price for it???!
