Now that you are a Mum, what do you give your Mum for Mother's Day?

In the United States, Mother's Day was inspired by the British day after the American Civil War. However, it was intended by social activists as a call to unite women against war in a Mother's Day for Peace. From there it took only a few years to turn Mother's Day into a wholly commercial event and to spread around the world the idea of giving presents on Mothering Sunday.

What do you give your Mum?

This year she's asked for Boots vouchers, so I'll give her £20 on a card so she can buy some pampering stuff. She's been looking after me and helping clean the house as I've got SPD.

I normally get my Mum a DVD or a new top or something like that (a little treat thats small enough to send in the post!)

Kewcumber · 04/03/2009 16:03

flowers or plant and a card.

I don;t care if its commercial for everyone else. For me its a day to say thank you to my mum for being fantastic and spend a little time with her.

Nothing I don't do normally but with just a litle more emphasis on on appreciating her than normal.

A nice gift wrapped gift set from Clarins

mylifemykids · 04/03/2009 17:36

We're taking my parents and the inlaws out for lunch. I can't wait

A card, possibly with a drawing from DS in it. My mum knows our financial position and really wouldn't expect a gift from us. It's not like it's a birthday...

philopastry · 04/03/2009 22:24

This year I am going to take her out walking somewhere beautiful and then for a lovely meal, or for an early bird meal and then to the theatre...the meal and wine and time to ourselves without kids or blokes is the main thing. Would love to take her to Ragdale Hall (spa place) for the weekend if funds allowed...

Heylittlelady · 04/03/2009 22:27

Gawd Gracie, my mum could do with taking a tip, as to her it IS like a birthday and the present has to be a) expensive b) unique c) just what she wanted when even she doesn't know what she wants

Gracie123 · 04/03/2009 22:33

Oh dear, that sound like my MiL. In fairness we always buy her something expensive, and she still always complains...

MrsGokWan · 04/03/2009 22:44

We usually do hanging baskets for our Mums on Mothering Sunday, which is what it is, not the comercial crap that the card companies churn out as Mothers Day. It is NOT Mothers Day it is Mothering Sunday.

rant over

oh! and the DC usually do a homemade card for them too.

Alcohol. She is particularly partial to Asti, Barcardi and Whisky.

She returns the favour by ensuring DH buys me Vodka.

Although dd1 once wanted to buy her some Cillit Bang and Fairy Liquid for Mothers Day She settled on Brazil nuts instead.
