when I was in P2 (about 6yr old) I remember to this day my teacher continously(sp?)marking me wrong for 8+4=12 - eventually she realised. I have though to this day been scarred for life as I always think of that time when i have to add the 2 numbers for whatever reason.

lol

Jenbot · 05/03/2009 14:25

My sister dressed as Alice in Wonderland for book day, the teacher wrote a little note home to say that it was a nice dress but Alice came from a Disney film, not a book!

Done and did makes me sooo cringe, but I think it is just a home counties dialect thing.

fryalot · 05/03/2009 16:19

jenbot -

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/03/2009 16:22

dear God jenbot

twoluvlykids · 05/03/2009 16:24

Jenbot, truly

That's so awful. At least you'll know what to get the teacher at the end of the school year as a present. (I've got a very battered old copy somewhere....)

Divineintervention · 05/03/2009 16:30

It's not dialect ffs, it's grammar.

raeBytsuR · 05/03/2009 16:32

jelnats - it's 'continuously'.

Though actually, as we are being pedantic here, I think you mean continually (unless the teacher corrected you literally all the time, ie she never did anything else)

Sorry

Nontoxic · 05/03/2009 16:42

Since the true pedants are coming out of the woodwork, may I point out that I wouldn't be feeling superior to anybody if I didn't know that the plurals of 'done' - 'dones' and 'did' -'dids' do not need apostrophes?

An apostrophe used as the OP suggests implies posession: 'the girl's hair is brown' - can't bring myself to make a sentence using 'done's.'

Am going for a lie down.

Cammelia · 05/03/2009 16:50

That reminds me jenbot, when dd was in Yr 1 she told the teacher she was reading Winnie the Pooh by A A Milne at home and the teacher told her Winnie the Pooh was not from a book he was a Disney character

2shoes · 05/03/2009 16:53

is there a plural to done?
how can you dones

OP posts:
Cammelia · 05/03/2009 16:56

nontoxic, what are you talking about?

"did" and "done" are different tenses of the verb "to do"

There are no plurals for verbs.

gonaenodaethat · 05/03/2009 16:57

YABU

It seems a bit smug and unkind to me to laugh at the CA with the teacher behind her back.

So there.

2shoes · 05/03/2009 16:58

don't worry the CA has plenty of chances to lol at me
it is a freindly school

OP posts:
gonaenodaethat · 05/03/2009 17:02

Oh well, maybe YANBU.

Its 'friendly' btw

Sorry, couldn't resist

2shoes · 05/03/2009 17:03

sarah76 · 05/03/2009 17:08

When I was 10, the teacher sent a letter home with all the kids (can't remember what about). My dad corrected all the grammar and spelling mistakes with a red pen, graded it, and sent it back. The teacher was an absolute asshole to me for the rest of the year!

2shoes · 05/03/2009 17:10

when I was small, I used to write to my dads cousin, who had been a nanny(governess)
she used to correct my mistakes and send the letter back!!!
I stopped writing

Did she die miserable and alone 2shoes?

Nontoxic · 05/03/2009 19:05

Cammelia - you're right, you can't have plurals for 'done' and 'did,' but if you read the OP you will see that is precisely what she is trying to do: 'she doesn't know her done's from her did's' (sic).
My point was that If you're going to mock someone for not knowing 'dones' from 'dids,' don't scatter random apostrophes which only serve to compound the error.

Cammelia · 05/03/2009 20:41

Oh I see

2shoes · 05/03/2009 20:58

Nontoxic I wasn't mocking her
ffs knew I should leave theses kind of threads to "the I am so clever brigade"
