Genuins opinions please because I really don't know if I can be arsed to complain about this but maybe I should in case any other babies are in danger?

I was in Boots with DD late last week and I didn't have a toy with her as the one I keep on the car seat had fallen off in DH's car.

She was screaming with boredom so I bought her this toy bar thing. Got outside, took off the packaging, gave it to her. Then realised it was supposed to play a tune and light up. It wasn't doing either so I turned it over and there is a battery compartment on the back which should have a screw on it, but the lid of the compartment and the screw were missing and this small, watch batter sized battery was half hanging out of the back.

Looked pretty dangerous to me - I took it back, got another one and asked if I could swap it - I did point out she could have swallowed the battery but didn't really complain further as DD was still screaming.

Is it worth a letter to head office to point out the dangers.

It's ok, I'm a big girl, I can take the screams of PFB

not PFB at all, get that email a whirring - something along the lines of they need to be looking at their quality control! Doesn't actually bear thinking about if your DD did actually swallow the battery! I guess they could counter that you should examine the toy before giving to child, yeah right - only if they dont have children!! Complain complain, i reckon there has to be a voucher in it!!

A swallowed battery is one of the few things that requires a trip to theatre. I'd complain.

Gorionine · 02/03/2009 20:35

Did you get the same toy the second time? If so is there the same problem or could it be that you got a defective one the first time?

If the same problem happens with second toy I would complain as there would be a sort of "pattern" IYSWIM. If it is only the once and they accepted to change it for you I am not sure there is actually any point in complaining more.

How old is DD?

thisismynewname · 02/03/2009 20:40

She's two, but it's a baby toy (she has SN).

Well in that case, I would write to Boots. It is probably a toy manufactured in a dodgy factory somewhere and Boots should either pull their weight with them or stop supply.

pinkspottywellies · 02/03/2009 20:42

I agree with LEM - might as well fire off an email to say you're concerned about the quality control. Reckon you'll get a voucher!

thisismynewname · 02/03/2009 20:47

Just gone on their website and their email is down

The toy's made by Graco apparently.

when it's back up again, I do think it's worth your while letting them know.
