to be fed up at being confined to the house because of DCs' chickenpox?

Am now entering the third week of being stuck in the house - had a gap of 3 days when I was free and then dd2 went down with it! The only time I leave the house is to nip the local shop at night when DP is home to stock up on essentials!I am SOOO fed up! One friend and my parents are prepared to visit but everyone else is staying away (understandably!. On the plus side I'm finding the time to do a lot of craft with DD1. I know once it's over that's it and it's not the end of the world but the though of another week of cancelled plans just makes me want to cry. DP is unsympathetic as he says it's no big deal as he shoots out the door to work or to football or just nips out to see his mum and dad. Aggghhh! Moan over.

You can still go out for walks and things just not play with other children (or adults).
Also worth asking your friends sometimes people want their children to catch it

ruty · 01/03/2009 10:09

why can't your dh stay at home for a bit so you can go out with dd1?

Ronaldinhio · 01/03/2009 10:14

yabu as you have a dp to help you but for some reason are allowing him to shirk his responsibilies
No prizes for top martyr!!

Call him, get him home and GO OUT

Oh I sympathise - am about to return to work tomorrow after a week at home (on a weeks holiday from work [grrrrrrr] with dd who has had it. She is still very spotty but the nursery will take her back once the spots are dry and crusting over as they're not contagious then.

I have been taking her out for walks round the park over the past 2 days though...we've both been going stir crazy.

Agree though that dp needs to be a bit more supportive - can't he have her while you go out in the evening for a few hours?

Another sympathetic poster here. Chickenpox was a real pain in the bum.

Do you have any friends whose children have had chickenpox? Was such a relief when ds was able to play with the handful who were safe.

Used to take him to the park during school hours when it was fairly empty and keep him away from anyone else who was there (shooed him away from one mother + pre-school child, she was obviously perturbed so I explained and thankfully her child had already had chickenpox so they were able to play - really appreciated that).

Btw, agree with others that your dh needs kicking into shape. Why isn't he doing his fair share?

silverfrog · 01/03/2009 10:20

why so long isolated? hpa guidelines are 5 days form onset of rash, not until all spots are crusted over - see here

hoping you get out soon

Sprogstersmum · 01/03/2009 10:22

DP can't look after them for more than an hour as DD2 is bf and will not take a bottle and can only be guaranteed to go without a feed for around an hour and a half so to be fair I can't really get him to babysit while I go out. I am planning an exciting hour out to Sainsbury's this morning though! And he is taking dd1 out later as she has now recovered.

How long are you staying home for?
The health protection agency says you only need to stay away for 5 days from the onset of the rash link

Sprogstersmum · 01/03/2009 10:27

Stayed at home for a week with DD1 - have got plans for wed which would mean taking dd2 out on 6th day but she's still getting more spots every day. I thought it was till spots crusted over but if it isn't then I could be free by Wed! Hurrah!

I though it was until spots crusted over too! You have my full sympathy as DD1 came down with it on Friday, and so far no sign of anything on dd2 although she has a very runny nose which dd1 had too. Hoping she'll get it quickly so we can get back in to the real world.
My dh spectacularly unhelpful as at work long hours and can't change that, and he's off to the football this afternoon.
yanu, it's a pain in the arse.

EldonAve · 01/03/2009 10:36

Nursery here said the advice had changed as per the link I posted so after 5 days my kid went back to nursery

SlightlyMadScotland · 01/03/2009 10:38

Ditto Silverfrog.

You only need to stay home for 5 days from ONSET...nothing to do with crusting spots anymore as transmission is mainly respiratory.
