To want to see the return of elephants to The Great British circus?

When I was younger I loved to see the animals in the circus, my favourite being the Elephants. My son has worked for a Circus and we went along to see The Great British Circus and we got chatting to one of the Lion tamers who spoke with great love and compassion about his lions but said its a shame that he cannot work with them in U.K. because of the Animals rights activists who pickett the circuses. 3 of his family dogs were poisoned by some of the picketts and he was almost crying when he said how much he missed them [the dogs].
I love animals and I know there are some bad circuses out there but really know that these workers look after their animals and just wondered if MNs would still go to a circus if the Elephants return just to see these beautiful animals?

How can you possibly imagine for even a second that it's a good idea to keep those huge magnificent animals in tiny cages, teach them completely unnatural tricks and cart them all over the countryside to perform for your amusement?!?!?!

I'm going to stop now before I say something I really regret.

I can't believe you are being serious, there isn't much we can do as individuals to help wild animals, but I most certainly would not pay to see animals in a circus. the individual handlers may well love and care for the animals, but it is a totally unnatural enviroment for them, and even more unnatural for them to be performing tricks for our amusement.

You can get a unique close-up insight into the daily lives of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo?s elephants.

ZSL Whipsnade's new dynamic ?Elephantastic!? demonstrations allows the specialist keepers to show visitors the training methods they use with these fantastic animals, as well as explaining why these are so important.

Demonstrations will take place in the brand new purpose-built arena, offering more seats and a larger viewing space. Launching on Saturday 24 May, Elephantastic! will run throughout the summer.

See how the keepers work with the elephants to lift their feet so that they can be cleaned and checked by the vets. Learn too how these beautiful animals face a daily struggle for survival in the wild, as well finding out about ZSL?s conservation work with Asian elephants.

There?s also be an chance to witness the strength of an elephant?s trunk and their amazing dexterity while children and visitors can enjoy interaction with the keepers before they take their charges on their daily walk around the zoo.

Elephantastic! will take place daily at 2.30pm from Saturday 24 May until 7 September 2008.

The demonstration lasts approximately 20 minutes and is free to zoo visitors.

Salsmum am not evenreading whole thread. Your Op has annoyed me woth your ignorance.

I hate ANY animals in a circus, because it is not natural, they are not there for our entertainment. An elephant or lion belong in the wild, not entertaining brain dead morons.

If I keep a wild monkey in my house and look after it well, thats ok then is it, because I love it and care for it well??

No it bloody well is not ok, nor is it ok for this stupid idiot lion tamer you talked to, to parade wild cats up and down for selfish imbeciles like YOU to look at.

I watched that programme When pets go bad, an elephant went mad in the circus, another in a shop car park, because they are bullied and ground down to the point they don't know which way is up. What happens when they try and get their freedom back, when they say no? SHOT DEAD, that's what. It makes me ashamed to be human, it really does.

OP is extracting the urine surely?????

junglist could not agree more, or be upset more

These animals (big cats/elephants) can kill a man in one second, yet they don't...instead they endure mental and physical cruelty of a nature that, yes, makes people like us, ashamed to be human.

So, when they DO turn, and fight back, I always let out a loud 'YESS' on behalf of these poor creatures.

Wild animals are not there for your entertainment. Have you any clue how they train these majestic creatures?

Nyliram · 13/07/2009 15:14

I agree with the comments about visiting the animals in as natural an environment as possible. I have just had a wonderful day out at Whipsnade Safari Park in Bedford
www.zsl.org/zsl-whipsnade-zoo/ All the animals look well cared for and in fact one of their elephants is just about to give birth ..... I will be going back to see the baby!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 13/07/2009 15:16

bugger orf please

Nyliram · 28/07/2009 17:03

I have just watched this video of the new baby calf born at Whipsnade Animal Park.

What is not to love about her.... watch her fall asleep on her feet...

W ell I will just have to seek out a discount voucher - what a great day out in Bedfordshire for the summer holidays... and they have a Big 5 adventure on this year too....

Where can I get a voucher!
