It'll be something very small.

No useful advice, but did not want this to go un-noticed

YABU - there is never a good time for the washing machine to break down.

Sorry about your job though.

wotulookinat · 27/02/2009 14:48

YANBU but it's Sod's law.

ThePellyandMe · 27/02/2009 14:52

Sorry about your job BitOfFun.

Washing machines seem to have an instinct for conking out at rough times.

I had one that conked out the day I went into labour with DS1.

Might be worth getting someone to repair it. We had that one repaired, cost us about £40. Alot less than a new machine but that was a few years ago.

chocoholic · 27/02/2009 14:58

I agree with Thepelly, they just know don't they! Some kind of strange in built sensor to detect a crap time for breaking.

BitOfFun · 27/02/2009 15:36

So, I've worked put it's less than three years old...when i took the clothes put they were still wet, not spun properly, and it didn't let me switch it on again. Worth getting someone out? Or new one? It does get very heavy use, two or three loads a day sometimes.

You could look at it the other way round and be relieved your machine broke just when the pressure was off for getting work clothes ready in time. Then do some swearing.

white goods are renowned for ganging up on you and striking when most inconvenient

Is it completely dead? are there lights that should be on and aren't?

If it's completely dead then maybe a fuse blew.

If it's just refusing to continue then you might want to unplug it, drain it (by getting the waste hose and putting in a bucket) and start again when it's empty.

There may be a circular plate on the front down the bottom hiding a bit you can open up to clean out the pump. If you have never done so then it will contain 45p in coins, 12 buttons and a pound of soggy cotton.

Another thing that goes wrong is the big belt on the back wears and either it slips or it comes off entirely. I recently replaced mine for just a few pound.

Norma Jean, sometimes don't you want to be a Marilyn even when you're not at work? Agh, I'm going to be shuffling around in a stained velour tracksuit for a week, arent I? With children who smell of wee...

Thing is I'm more of a Manson than a Monroe.

If you plan on getting a new washing machine try here...

www.clearance-comet.co.uk/

It is an auction site run by comet. We got a great washing machine that was ex-display so unboxed and it cost I think about £200 when it would have been about £400 usually so was a bit of a bargain. some of the stuff is returned goods or has aesthetic damage though but some of it is literally just without a box!

Oh, and YANBU btw!!!

Or sign up for your local Freecycle groups www.freecycle.org . When you sign up set emails to daily digests or you will be inundated with emails. You see an item you like and express an interest in it and if you are selected then you pick the item up for free
