Why do people keep saying this to me? It is most annoying.

Someone had the nerve to say they liked the crocuses in my front garden.

I mean, what the hell was that about?

The worst thing is when people waltz up and say 'What a lovely baby.' Both my dcs have developed a complex about being 'lovely'. It's not fair that society should label them in this way.

'Smile love' - I'm not your love and I don't waste smiles on people who call me love without invitation.

I think weather talk works best in countries where the weather could do something unexpected (not hot season vs dry season) even if the differences are very subtle.

Oh god people always say 'cheer up' to me and it does annoy me. I can't help it if I have a bloody miserable face!

No-one says how nice the weather is to me - partly because we live in Scotland, and partly because no-one ever talks to me - sob sob [nellie no-mates emoticon]!

Its a bit dull today up here in scotland isn't it Stayingsunnygirl. Do you think it will rain?

In my opinion, the chances of precipitation are high - though not as high as they were around the times that the schools let out! In my experience, if it's only going to rain once in a day, it does it at 2.50, whilst all the mums are standing in the playground waiting - and it always takes that bit longer for the children to come out when it's raining, too!

I think the teachers do it on purpose, so the mums have to wait in the rain that bit longer - in fact, I once asked ds2's teacher if this was true, and she said yes!!

lol. Have also found this freak weather occurence to be true.It's always at hometime and always when I decide to walk instead of taking the car! Had to take the car today...and guess what? It stayed dry {i give up emoticon}

The question is do you get a different quality of idle small talk in different parts of the country?

I have found in the past the quality of chitchat in, erm Lincolnshire, for example, poor and monosyllabic, compared to the rich, fullsome small talk of the west country.

That is on the rare occasion i can actually understand it. Often I just nod and smile, I'll do anything to be liked.

Just be careful never to leave the UK. I have made that error and now it's bright and sunny and warm every single day. Every. Single. Day.

I now go up to people at toddler groups and mouth wordlessly at them. What is there to say?
