Next door a family moved in last year and although they have not bothered us directly, they're totally stressing me out and making me want to move.

Their front garden is absolutely disgusting. It is full of rubbish, a dirty dishcloth on the path next to our fence, paper all over the floor, a ripped open bin bag, an old sofa which has been there since last summer and there are mugs lined up on the window ledge. It stinks too and as our houses are very close together, I have to endure it everytime I go in my front door.

In their back yard they have rows and rows of dog shit. Cups lined up all along the window ledge again and piles of black rubbish bags all over. Again, it reeks, especially in summer.

The dog is left in all day by itself barking and howling. The teen girls bring boys/men back all the time and they're screaming and carrying on until all hours.

I don't want to cause any trouble and am worried they will know it was me that reported (i'm their only neighbour attached) but would you report it if you were me or just leave it?

Is it a council property? If so i'd phone the council.

If not i'd phone Environmental Health - it sounds filthy and possibly verminous.

I really feel for you - that must be horrid.

StayOutOfTheLight · 24/02/2009 11:01

its not council but they are renting. I don't know who their landlord is though.

I'd phone Environmental Health then. An ex-boyfriend used to work for them and part of their job is dealing with 'filthy and verminous' properties.

poshwellies · 24/02/2009 11:03

Yup,I'd report them.

The dog shit and rubbish must stink in summer, gross.

Had a neighbour who left at least 6 mnths of weekly rubbish in her back garden, got fed up with the stench and reported her(was a privately owned house). She has a very nice man visit her and informed her she must clear up or the council would and charge her for the removal of rubbish. She cleared it up.

motherlovebone · 24/02/2009 11:04

doesnt sound like they are breaking any laws, just a different way of life. sounds awful but doubt much can be done

rolandbrowning · 24/02/2009 11:04

Yes I would report them, for the dog shit if nothing else.

traceybath · 24/02/2009 11:06

Agree with poshwellies. If people let rubbish etc build up it becomes a health hazard and the council will clean it up but will charge them.

Ex-boyfriend used to go to some really really hideously filthy properties. Quite often it was symptomatic of the problems that the people who lived in those houses had.

This lot sounds just like our neighbours! At the moment there is a mattress outside the front that stinks of dog (I hope) wee. All their ground floor floorboards and even joists are up and in the front garden too - presumably because the dog wee has rotted the floors. At least 6 kids, youngest about 8 living in there - poor blighters.

Def call the council. You have prompted me to do it too.

StayOutOfTheLight · 24/02/2009 11:15

There are two teenage girls living there. One of them is 14 and last year she was sat sprawled out on a chair wearing just her knickers and bra sunbathing amongst all the dog shit and rubbish bags. I don't know how she could stand it, I could smell it from my own back yard so theirs must stink something rotten.

The council can get an injunction to make people tidy up if it's causing a health hazard. Definitely get on to the Env. Health!
