We were having a daft phone conversation and she was making a silly statement that I should lie about something to DD (aged 7). I said I never lie to my children and she said not even when she says 'Whats that thing between daddy's legs?'

I just snorted and said DD is very aware of body parts and their medical names and uses. I mentioned that she knows a penis, vulva, vagina and ovaries along with heart, lungs and veins etc.

Cousin then said 'oh you're weird, you're going to make her grow up into a lesbian' WTF!!

At that point I said I had to go and removed myself from the conversation.

What a ridiculously small minded and pathetic view point, yes???????

She is a married woman with an 8 year old DD. Thats why its more worrying, her DD obviously had no understanding of genitalia etc. She was genuinely shocked and horrified when I said DD knew the names- it was just the lesbian comment that made her a knob

Blimey. Slightly off-topic, but it reminds me strongly of an all-about-sex-and-relationships book that I leafed through in a counsellor's room in Ireland (I was staying at her house, not there for counselling). It contained a picture of the female genitalia. With NO CLITORIS drawn or labelled. This was in - ta-dah! - 1994.

At least she knows now that bringing up a child in total ignorance is not, like, what everyone does.
