He's booked in for it next week, and honestly, the moping around is driving me loopy. I know he's worried about it, I know it's an unpleasant thing to have to have done, I know he's likely to be in a bit of pain and of course that's not something to be relished.

But FFS, I have had TWO caesareans that I have made less fuss about. And HE is the one that really really doesn't want more children. So I would like him to shut up now, please, or I will run out of sympathy before he has the op and he will get no tlc afterwards.

There, feel better now, can go and be nice to him again.

When your wife gets pregnant!

ABetaDad · 20/02/2009 22:12

AUBERGINES!

Sidge · 20/02/2009 22:16

Well, small aubergines

Pan · 20/02/2009 22:24

Hmm..as I recall one had to , erm, produce 12 examples in a 3 week period, or so, and submit those for analysis. Or perhaps I had a particularly cruel and levitous clinic....it was a real nuisance aiming for the narrow-topped jar, as I remember....

ABetaDad · 20/02/2009 22:27

I remember those jars from the IVF clinic - I found it easier if I got my wife to help.

Pan · 20/02/2009 22:29

Lucky you! I had to do the "slam-dunk" from increasing distances as MsPan laughed from the sidelines!!

ABetaDad · 20/02/2009 22:36

Grin Grin Grin

Pan · 20/02/2009 22:38

That's what she looked like at the time!!

NorthernLurker · 20/02/2009 22:41

Dear, dear what agony you men have to suffer eh?

BettySwollux · 20/02/2009 22:52

DH had his done in august last year, apparently the tubes were behind his scrotum, so they gave him an extra shot of local and 'dug deep'.
He was rather sore and a bit swollen and purple.
A friend whose DH had been done (sounds like were talking about the dog lol - get the collar ready) said to use sanitary pads, you know, the el cheapo extra thick matress type, for padding and comfort.
DH was soooo grateful for that advice!!

Anyway, he still hasnt put his sample in, reckons he is a bit about going in a jar, and a bit about handing it in.

How often does it not work? We are still using condoms, but the whole point was so we didnt have to.

Technofairy · 20/02/2009 22:54

Actually Pan, you've just reminded me of the time I visited my friend for coffee a few weeks after her DH had the snip. We sat at the table which was cluttered with all sorts of stuff - she had 4 kids so completely understandable - when my eyes registered on this small plastic pot with some sort of er fluid in it. She noticed me 'noticing' it and said 'Oh that's DH's sample. I've got to drop it off at the the clinic this morning.' I was never able to look him in the eye after that!

NorthernLurker · 20/02/2009 22:56

Betty - just go on strike till he does the samples. I believe it mostly works but you do not want to find out that it hasn't only when your periods stop and you start throwing up! Condoms are not a long term measure imo - and it must be costing you a fortune. Well at least a fiver anyway

BettySwollux · 20/02/2009 23:04

NL, our doctors give them for free, so at least thats something.
Does anyone know, can he do sample at night, then hand it into clinic next morning, or does it have to be fresh?
I mean, surely they are just looking for the presence of sperm, does it matter if they died in the night?
Just think he may find it easier after a couple of drinks and I 'help' him, as theres no hope of that on a morning in our house!

NorthernLurker · 20/02/2009 23:08

I think the night before is fine - dh's had to go in the post. There shouldn't be any sperm in the samples - dead or alive!

Isaidno · 21/02/2009 10:07

dh had to get his sample to the hospital by 11am, and less than an hour old. It has worked though - he had zero swimmers.

elsiepiddock · 21/02/2009 10:14

Aubergines that's a perfect description!

My dh has the snip last June.

He ignored the advice not to do anything strenuous and was playing cricket 2 days later.

He paid the price!!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 21/02/2009 10:23

At least he's having it done. My DH refused so I had to get sterilised.

ABetaDad · 21/02/2009 10:48

Isaidno - I once had to take an IVF sample from my house in Pimlico (London) all the way to Harley St and get there in under an hour. The doctor said I had to keep it in my pocket and keep my hand on it at all times to keep it warm.

Travelling on London Underground with one hand constantly in my pocket was like a mild disability and really opened my eyes to just how unfriendly the Underground is to really disabled people.

Maybe we should get all London Underground managers to do it.

kitbit · 21/02/2009 10:52

Tell him to be grateful there are modern methods. In caveman days I bet they used 2 bricks banged together.

(I only put that in because I know there are fellas on the thread and I wanted to make your eyes water!!!)

Pan · 21/02/2009 10:59

not sure why we need to keep the samples warm. As someone said, there shouldn't be any swimmers, warm or cold. You only need to keep it warm if you wish to use the sample for 'home fertilisation' purposes, which I became involved in once. I had to keep my friend's sperm warm whilst I took it to another friend's house. Complicated.

BoffinMum · 21/02/2009 11:12

Told DH selected bits of this thread, eg analogies with dogs and here is his snip joke:

Three dogs in the vets. One asks the next "What are you in for then?" Dog replies, "I managed to escape out the house, and did the business with the poodle next door, so I'm in for the snip". "Oh," commiserates the other dog. "I didn't manage to escape. They got fed up of me humping the table legs so they've brought me in for the snip as well." Then they both turn to the third dog, a huge Irish Wolfhound. "How about you, mate?" "Well, I saw the mistress bending over and I just couldn't help myself." "Oh, are you in for the snip as well, then?"

"Nah," says the wolfhound. "She's brought me in to get my toenails cut".

ABetaDad · 21/02/2009 12:56

At least us humans don't have to wear one of those plastic funnels round our necks to stop us licking the wound.

Pan · 21/02/2009 14:23

We don't??!!

BoffinMum · 21/02/2009 15:06

DH's response to that was any bloke who did need a collar to stop himself licking the affected area wouldn't need a woman in the first place.

I am saying nothing.
