DS3 (nearly 21 months) is taking a while to settle tonight (nothing too unusual about that). However DS2 (5yrs) who shares a room with him is also taking ages to settled - usually not too much of a problem but I can hear him (bunk bed that squeaks a lot when he moves around) moving around CONSTANTLY. This in tun is keeping DS3 awake even longer

I have housework to do I have studying to do and I can't flipping get my head down and do it because all I can hear in the faint background of the monitor is the 2 of them

Sounds absolutely fair to me.

catMandu · 19/02/2009 21:04

Yes, I think that's fine - what kind of straps are you planning to use? .

(cue holier than thou brigade)

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:05

well I've still got LOADS of parcel tape.......and found a ball of string earlier when I was looking for something else

BananaFruitBat · 19/02/2009 21:05

I think it depends how tight. And is this before screaming abuse?

OrmIrian · 19/02/2009 21:05

Do you not have straitjackets? So much easier.

BananaFruitBat · 19/02/2009 21:06

Parcel tape is crap, you need proper duct tape.

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:07

well I can't really get away with screaming abuse at the toddler can I? He's just not quite old enough for it (although when I scream at his older brothers he does look like he understands LOL). Would be tight enough to keep them still long enough to get bored and go to sleep

Unfortunately I think the straitjacket is still in a box in the garage

Banana - I have about 6 rolls of it........surely that would be ok if I wrapped it round several times?

Monkeygi · 19/02/2009 21:11

I find that tape of any kind is useless as it doesn't stick properly to the bedclothes. I have sewn tape to pyjamas to make straitjackets as the real thing seems to be difficult to come by in child sizes. Failing that you could try tucking the bedclothes in really really tightly so that they can't move- although this is more difficult with duvets.

BananaFruitBat · 19/02/2009 21:11

Oh yes, should be fine if you've got that much. I'd try 2 rolls on DS3 and 4 on DD2.

Ready4anothercoffee · 19/02/2009 21:12

why not just mummify them in it?

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:18

hmm some good extra ideas here.

Thanks MN for keeping me sane (and with the ideas for next time ) - they sound like they're settled (well at least DS3 has given up - still occasional wrigglings from DS2 but get longer between them........)

cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 21:23

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:23

Does it help that my 5yr old has just said goodnight to us and taken himself off to bed? [smug emoticon]

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:29

nah - not really

generally what happens in this house (infact almost without fail - which is why I think was I was so stressed by this happening tonight)

Is 8pm - I take DS2 and 3 up to bed (DS2 would go up on his own but I have to pt DS3 in his cot ). DS2 is usually snoring audibly by about 8.15, DS3 stop faffing around and singing by 8.30

9pm - DS1 goes up to bed

They get up in the morning, make their own breakfasts and watch TV, if it's not a school day, if DS3 wakes up and I'm still sleepy they go and keep him entertained in his cot (again without me telling them)

I have made several of my friends rather jealous on the odd occasions that they've babysat for me at the usual slicknes of bedtimes..........

It just all went farking wrong tonight and it sent my blood pressure through the roof as I'm not used to it

Ashanti-shurrup!

FAQ-thankyou.i might not have tape but i have a glass of red wine and plenty of baccy(bad mummy).

mine are all in bed but its counting down till ds2 is up which is problem!i started thread in sleep about 3 year olds blah blah.but no one answered.

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:35

in fact my the bedtime routine in this house is so "polished" that I often host meetings here at my house - starting at 8pm (as DS1 is old enough to occupy himself quietly for the hour before his bedtime) because I know that the 2 younger (noisier) ones will be in bed and going to sleep.

oh you couldn't chuck some of that baccy over here could you??? I'm running awfully low - think it should be enough to last me until the morning when we'll do a "shop run".......but going to have to limit myself WAAAH

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 21:36

i'll share

Ashantai · 19/02/2009 21:38

Sorry chaps, didnt mean to getcha mad

Aww FAQ your kids sound like mine in the morning. They know i am not a morning person and even on school days they sort themselves for breakfast while my OH makes their packed lunches.

Hmm i sound kinda spoilt dont i

But while they shine in those areas, they are the fussiest eaters in the world and at one stage i found myself making 3 diff meals for them (i know, i know!), and then whatever me and my OH fancied!

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 21:40

oh before they started getting their free school meals in September they used to make their own packed lunches too.

DS1 started around Easter in YR2, and then wanted to make lunch at the weekends too (they usually just have a sandwich, or toast, and whatever other bits and pieces we have in for lunch so fairly simple) - DS2 started copying him so they both do it now

Thanks for the baccy CS.

My ancient Grandmother freely admits to safety-pinning her children to their bed in the '40s. She thinks that is perfectly reasonable so they wouldn't interrupt her pink gin. Does Grandmother know best?
