to think that facial piercings are not appropriate for 12-13 year olds?

Well, my son had a friend sleeping over the otehr day. The boy is really lovely and I know the parents, and they are nice people, too...and I am not judging it (or I suppose I am, I don't know)

But I was a bit when I saw the boy had a face piercing (lip).

I think 12-13 is far to young for that, and well, it just wouldn't be something I would allow my son to have.
I mean , I realise once they are Teenagers it is impossible to stop things like that), but at this young age it is still very much up to the parents, is it not?

I know I might be unreasonable.

Like I said the boy is really lovely and polite and played great wiht my little ones, aswell,so, I have no concerns or anything...I suppose I was just surprised to see something that permanent on a child.

I'm afraid I hate facial piercings anyway. Generally speaking, many of the people whom I have spoken to who have one are fairly intelligent, polite and well spoken.
I do find them a bit intimidating tbh.

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2009 19:36

are you sure it was real?
my friend and I had fake rings we used to put on our lips/ears as young teens

kettlechip · 19/02/2009 19:37

Ewww, if it was a real one than YANBU. And come to think of it, I wouldn't want my ds' wearing a fake one either, so YANBU either way..

FairLadyRantALot · 19/02/2009 22:11

yes, real...because I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I ask and he showed me...
it wasn't a ring, it was a spikey stud thing...

Oh, and I was all outraged when ES asked me if he could have his hair dyed....my answer was a resounding "NO"...but in comparison my ds's request was pretty harmless...

still a NO though

I think facial (and genital and nipple and...) piercing are horrible on ANYONE! 13, 31, 113.... yuck yuck

I know a lot of people like them but they give me the heebie jeebies. Metal shoved through you. I don't even have my ears pierced!

girlandboy · 19/02/2009 22:16

Apparently children can't get a piercing done without parental permission if under the age of 16. So I assume the parents were with him when he had it done.

Not something I agree with.

CherryChoc · 19/02/2009 22:19

I thought it was illegal full stop under the age of 16, weird.

I don't agree with it under that age - you can take them out, but you will always have a scar.

FairLadyRantALot · 19/02/2009 22:28

I suppose for a change I don't seem to be completely unreasonable in my feeling towards this, then....

Hecate...yeah, piercings facial/genital/tongue... are not on my list of liking....although ears, not a problem with that....

Hearing it now, as a parent myself i think it does sound young. But ten years ago when i was 13, i had my lip pierced once. Changed my DOB to make me three years older on the forms and that was it. My parents were pretty angry at the time too. But YANBU and i feel such a hypocrite saying that.

FairLadyRantALot · 19/02/2009 22:51

lol Prammy...oh and there is no chance he could pretend to be older...he looks his age...
