To not want to hear an update on Jade Goody in every single news bulletin?

It is sad when young women are diagnosed with terminal cancer. It is sad when these women are mothers.

HOWEVER, I do not want Sky News to flash to the hospital to show her wedding dress arriving. I do not want to hear that she wants Girls Aloud to play at her wedding. I do not want to hear every single bloody thing that she is doing.

I understand that she wants to make money for her boys, and I appreciate that. But surely there are more important things going on in the world?

Not for this poor family there aren't.

I have no issueswith it whatsoever, if 2 minutes each night on the news means the poor girl ca retain the spotlihght for the last few weeks and covera few more bills then fine.

Sassybeast · 19/02/2009 15:45

Oh can of worms But I totally agree and whilst it is fab that she is securing her boys future, I can't help but wonder how much good her 800K wedding 'deal' money would do for Cancer Research. . I'm not sure that 2 little boys with a fit and healthy daddy who will presumably be caring for them need that amount of money ?

meemar · 19/02/2009 15:45

However anyone feels about it sadly it is big news, and media companies will feed on it because it's what Jade has asked them to do.

I personally would stop watching Sky News.

TheyCallMePeachy · 19/02/2009 15:45

(and it must be working coz I booked a very overdue smear today!)

ssd · 19/02/2009 15:47

it is getting a bit overplayed I think

BrownSuga · 19/02/2009 15:47

as did I!

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 19/02/2009 15:48

There was a similar surge in smears / breast checks etc after Kylie was diagnosed, and that is, of course, a good thing.

fattiemumma · 19/02/2009 15:50

whilst i am finding it irritating to seeit constantly i am glad they are showing it.
just from my friends list on facebook i can see at least 5 women that have booked over due smear tests simply because of the JG coverage.

traceybath · 19/02/2009 15:54

Just read on the times website that smears up by 21% because of the jade goody effect - surely a good thing.

Good article here

Rindercella · 19/02/2009 15:54

Sassybeast, I really do not think that any one of us is able to judge how much money Jade Goody's children may or may not need in the future. Tsk. I would in fact think that cancer charities are in fact grateful for all of this publicity.

Personally, I would prefer not to hear much about this, but I choose not to buy sleb magazines and tune out a little when it comes on the news. However, it is entirely JG's choice what she does. It is obvious she feels this is the best she can do for her two children who will shortly be left without their mother. Very very sad indeed.

Itsjustafleshwound · 19/02/2009 15:56

Traceybath - when I read that article it did change my opinion ...

Re: that article. I don't believe that she should hide away. I think it is a good thing that there is increased awareness.

My argument is that I do not need hourly updates on her status.

It is sad when anyone is diagnosed with terminal cancer! The JG coverage has resulted in a 20% increase in demand for smear tests so I think YABU.

Lizzylou · 19/02/2009 16:00

That is a really good article, Traceybath.

Op, I would stop watching Sky News.

FriarKewcumber · 19/02/2009 16:00

the news is generally 75% full of things I'm not really that interested in or don;t think are news. Not sure I'd pick out Jade Goody above the rest though.

Oovavu · 19/02/2009 16:01

defo stop watching sky "news".
Haven't heard much about it at all - don't have daily paper and watch/listen to bbc. They only had the news about it being terminal last saturday as far as I know and haven't had any other 'incidental' stuff.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 19/02/2009 16:02

(For the record, I watch other news channels too, and listen to the radio. I just happened to be on Sky when the dress flash came up)

Itsjustafleshwound · 19/02/2009 16:03

Sky News - part of the Murdoch (NoTW) stable - yes??

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 19/02/2009 16:03

(and btw - the BBC NEWS website has a story on their home page)

OP posts:
littlelyn · 19/02/2009 16:04

Newspapers would not being giving JG the coverage if it wasn't selling their papers! Editors decide the layout of their paper - not JG.

littlelyn · 19/02/2009 16:05

Whoops - Newspapers would not be giving JG the coverage.......

TheyCallMePeachy · 19/02/2009 16:06

Dandy you are right of course, I guess life took over. I've spent a significant portion of the alst decade either pregnant or visiting hospitals with mmy children,I guess anything me gets put on a back burner. I own twopairs of trousers and havent had a haircut is soooo long. I suppose Jade'sillness took it fromabout me (ie dismissed) to about the boys. Does that make sense?

I don't have Sky,maybe that's why I have not been bombarded enough to bother me.

tiredsville · 19/02/2009 16:06

I think it a great reminder to women like me who still haven't booked in their over due smear tests!
But money is not the be and end all to a guaranteed life of hapiness for her boys when she has left them.
I have met Jeff their father a couple of times, he comes across as a really nice, sensible chap (nothing like Jack) from a close-knit family. I'm sure he will do a great job as a dad, regardless of weather the boys have a large inheritance or not.
