To think that Cathedral city cheese is a pile of poo.

I don't mind it. But I do prefer red leicester, or this cracked black pepper cheese you can get in Sainsbos.

Though I love the cathedral city advert, I've never actually tried it. Power of advertising eh.

But the one I love is called "Colliers" cheddar with a pic of a miner on it (known as mining cheese in our house). Really yum.

I agree with OP. Tasteless IMO.

stillstanding · 11/02/2009 17:05

We use it all the time but I think just by default. Whenever we have "real" cheese I am always amazed by how wonderful it tastes.

I think our palates are completely dumbed down in this country. Most of our fruit, tomatoes etc tastes like cardboard and then if you go to Italy and suddenly taste real tomatoes that have grown in sunlight ... wow!!!

SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 11/02/2009 19:02

Sainsbo's were doing Seriously Farmy cheese for £2 a block a few days ago. It's not bad, but not brilliant! Not really strong enough for me.

Wensleydale is lovely, especially with cranberry.

Red leicester used to be a favourite, but I find it pretty lame now though Ds loves it.

I like Canadian mature or extra mature cheeses.

to think I used to only like mild English cheddar...Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole nowadays though. Tasteless!

Which one? I adore the vintage CC(comes in a red packet), but not bothered about the medium one (that comes in a red packet).

brimfull · 11/02/2009 19:12

we eat it ,kids love it so that's it sold for me
not bad for a cheap cheese

most cheapo cheeses taste much the same ime

differentCupID · 11/02/2009 19:15

For every day cheese it's fine. For proper cheese we use these guys
Little Black BOmber is the nicest Plain cheddar around imho.

brimfull · 11/02/2009 19:17

I buy whatever is on offer

notagrannyyet · 11/02/2009 20:12

Yes it's vile. Most of the prepacked stuff is tasteless IMO. We use Red Leicester or Double Gloucester in packups and cooking.
Sometimes Brie,(Somerset of course).

But by far the best is Silton both white & blue. Must be because of where it's made!

noonki · 11/02/2009 20:22

YABVU it is my stable diet and I love it

WilyFox · 11/02/2009 20:23

I used to live in stilton NAGY and they used to have a 'cheese rolling' day where they would put ribbons around the cheese and roll it down the hill.

That must be why it tastes so good

We have it every week ... its fine for day to day cooking etc and its often on offer in Tesco!

steviesgirl · 12/02/2009 01:43

YANBU. It's overrated. "The nation's favourite cheddar". What a load of bollocks!!
