to think it should be possible to contact hotmail services when account has been hijacked?

And the hijackers have blocked my access to my account - and to my facebook account ... and there's no way I'll remember all my contacts

And to top it all I've had all and sundry ringing me - from my business colleagues to university tutors - saying I've sent a 'disturbing' mail begging them to send me money as I'm stuck in NIGERIA

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

have spent hours trying to get back into my account and now near to tears

so have come here to rant

Internet Service Provider. So you can't access your uni email either ... not sounding good.

Sign up for a freebie account with anyone. Try yahoo or hotmail and then get busy emailing everywhere you use saying your account has been hacked and to not accept change of password from the old email. I hope you have already contacted your bank (if you do online banking) and credit card companies.

Are you unable to access uni email because you think it has been stolen? or just because uni server is pants?

just set up a new hotmail account, but dont not just email and say your other account has been stolen, you need to actively go into all your accounts and change the email details on the account settings

have hotmail cot back to you yet?

wabbit · 13/02/2009 01:57

hotmail got back to me yes - have filled their comprehensive form which was just as shangrila described.

Had to wrack my brains for all the contacts and mail titles i could remember - a good reminder that I must save them somewhere else just in case anything of this sort ever happens again

Thanks just twiddling thumbs now!

Did any of your other accounts get hacked into because of it?

I have an excel spredsheet where i keep a log of all the websites i am registered to, with the username, email and password that i registered with, and its password protected

Its worth doing for future reference

shangrila · 14/02/2009 23:08

Wabbit - did they sort it out for you? Hope so.

My DH suggests that it is so impossible to contact hotmail deeply and impenetrably embedded in their website because, if they made it easy to contact them, they would have to employ hoards of people to deal with the enormous number of hacked accounts!

Anyway, my excellent outcome is that I just had to change my password and was able to move on with very little impact. Hope it was the same for you.

sorry - been away for the weekend.

Ah, I've had a reply but they want more info than I can remember... so I've read through as much bumph as I can to locate e-mail addresses of contacts etc

Hope this now works... just want to get sorted now, seems to be dragging!

Thanks VinegarTits - I shall do the same what a good idea
