To be annoyed at my friends 'cancer cure' rantings

A member of my family has terminal cancer, he is not going to get better and he doesnt have long left.

My friend on FB who i have recently got in contact with seems to think that the government(?) have come up with a cure for cancer but won't give it out because cancer brings in too much money through selling the drugs the cancer patients.

Now i really like this person, used to get on great with her and hope to stay friends with her but TBH i find it so upsetting seeing her status all the time, it just brings up all the uspet to the front of my mind

I know she is not doing it intentionally but i just wish she would drop it, and i dont know if i should say anything or just leave it, i dont want to fall out with her over this

today her status is XXXXX - is angry the biggest cancer group on facebook has been hacked and closed due to the truth about cancer cures!

I feel upset because even if there is a cure for cancer we dont have access to it so its a bit like dangling a carrot we will never be able to reach

As someone who has a background in cancer research, there are new developments made every day, but sadly, a blanket cure is just not on the horizon :(

Sadly, there is a trend online that cancer can be 'cured' by eating / drinking certain things, and using other non conventional treatments.. I think the thought process behind it is that the body can cure itself if the immune system is strong enough.

There is no medical evidence to back this up however, and sites like this tend to get shut down because they capitalise on scared, desperate people and can also cause people not to stick to medical advice because they are following X therapy, have X religion or whatever.

I would delete her for a while until she has stopped posting these things - jsut explain that's it's too close to home at the moment, but don't get invovled in the conversation. There are loads of conspiracy theories about it but no doctor in their right mind would ever prescribe anything that wasn't clincally proven.

I hopet the next few weeks / months are not too painful for you or your relative.

5318008 · 25/04/2012 16:49

Betty a zombie thread is an old thread resurrected, in this case by someone appearing to be promoting a dodgy website

Posters see it in active convos and respond to op not realising that thread is sometimes years old

As if billionaires like Steve Jobs would be dying of cancer if there genuinely were a cureHmm.
