To wish I had said something to the lady who's toddler was sick in soft play and she just walked away!!!

I kid you not.. At a large soft play centre they have a half hour bouncing beans session in an enclosed bit.. All bouncing away when her toddler puked on the floor. Mum just got up and walked out.. We all stopped and watched thinking she would grab some wipes or tissue.... NO she got a high chair and went to sit by her husband and drank her coffee!!! [shocked]
The facilitator had to stop the session while she went off to get disinfectant, meanwhile around 2 or 3 of the little ones had walked through the sick.. it was so gross and she sat there blankly. A couple of people said very loudly that someone had been sick and the facilitator spoke to her on the way back but she just drank her coffee and left soon after. Lazy cow!!

Yanbu to think this was unacceptable and irresponsible.

I think you were wise not to approach her though; sadly in this culture many people can be unpredictable and you were wise to leave it up to the 'facilitator' to resolve.

Perhaps she was one of those people who are frightened of sick? but even so, she could have gone for help rather than doing nothing.

She didnt't look remotely frightened... just blank!

Last time I went two toddlers (I think (hope)siblings) were fighting - I mean punching, kicking - really going for it. It was a small girl and a bigger boy. Everyone was doing that looking away thing so I went and held the boy back and told him to go and find his mum. Then the woman next to me started talking to them as if they were her kids - I am 99% sure she was the mum but let them carry on! Maybe I am too much of a helicopter mum hovering about after DS? But cripes, I thought blood was going to be spilled!

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 09/02/2009 14:13

I am a helicopter mum too, I follow DS around at toddler group - everyone else is chatting and drinking coffee and sometimes I wonder if they would even notice if their child was still there or not. LofW - your are right, there comes a point when it is a good idea to intervene with dcs, but you were still brave - some parents are incredibly ignorant and ungrateful even for assistance. It makes one wonder what kind of nehavious is accepted at home if the thing you described doesn't raise their eyebrows in public!

nehavious = behaviour

You were probably wise not to say anything to them... things can alas get rather nasty.

The parent/carer was in the wrong, they should have alerted the group organiser and assisted with clearup. But not everyone is like that... some just don't seem to care.

It's like at cafe's... I see parents/carers with children who are making quite a bit of mess - as children do. The parent/carer just leaves it. When I go to cafe's (such as when visiting museums or Windsor Great Park), then I make an effort to wipe up the vast majority of the mess the children create... I don't leave it all for the cafe staff to do. The cafe staff will still come along and wipe the table and high chair.
