I have been saving (for ages) for a laptop. I have saved money in apypal from thing I sold on ebay and used my bonuses from work - not big bonuses, but bonsues all the same- and have got the grand sum of £350. We can afford to add another £50 to it.
I want to buy the laptop outright, now. DH on the other hand has seen one which is buy now pay 9months later. His idea is this
"we get it now and before the 9months is up we pay the whole amount, so we don't get charged any interest. We can keep the £350 in a savings account and get the interest from the money in the 9 months"
AIBU in not seeing any sense in this?

There are some buy now pay later schemes where you have to pay an admin fee if you pay it in full, rather than taking credit. You should make sure it's not like that.

Make sure you check prices online too-places like www.misco.co.uk often have far better prices than the high street.

another thought, you say money is in paypal, if you purchase on line alot of stores let you use paypal so you won't incurr cost to withdraw cash from paypal and could get extra discount this way.

Try buying through Quidco as let you use paypal and get cash back.

Hope this helps

It's your money, saved up by you? I don't get why you're even having the conversation. If it was his money, then ditto.

Well, I had email problems before, kept getting error messages, and wnet into DH's email account to see if he ahd hte same problems and he has ordered it! On finance!
Now I know some of you will say that I shouldn't have gone into his eamils, but this happens a lot with error problems and sometimes one of us will get emaail and the ohter won't.

Anyway, I am just about to text him at work and say "I can't find a savings account that wil pay us a worthwhile rate of interest"
