to think that we should all be thankful for what we have and stop moaning about petty things if only just for today?

Even if you aren't a fan of Jade Goody I think that it's a perfect example of in most cases there being someone worse off than you.

It certainly makes me ashamed for being grumpy at the man who nicked my seat on the train this morning. Who cares - in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter.

Sorry if it sounds a little harsh, but who cares where your SIL wedding dress comes from? (no offence meant it's just that there's a lot of moaning about petty things going on and Jade's news has brought back memories of my cancer scare.

FAQ - I think that you have a fab problem and I love organising kitchen.

FAQtothefuture · 05/02/2009 14:51

Well you see I've only ever had 3 drawers, and now suddenly I've got 4, and a different amount of cupboards and trying to work out where to put everything - but hey it's only taken me 5 days to get round to doing the first proper bit of unpacking - we're still living out of the suitcases LOL

Sorryforbeinganuisance · 05/02/2009 14:52

have you got some lithium Kerry? Please?

FAQ:

Drawer one: Tea towels, aprons, placemats etc.
Drawer two: Cutlery
Drawer three: Utensils
Drawer four: Foil, sandwich bags etc.

Unfortunately, my extra drawer has become yet another junk drawer .

Sorry for highjack.

I see what Auntie Maggie is saying but life simply does not work like that.
When you have a huge tragedy you reassess. Sometimes that reassessments lasts but often it does not and you go back to your default setting of worrying aboutthe shit in front of you as much or as little as is your norm.

I am not going to ponder the intricacies of life because of a tragedy befalling a minor celebritu - however sad that is.
Exactlythe same as when i have walked down the street feeling like dying because of what is going on in my life I feel strangely comforted by listening to people moaning aboutthe weather.

Moaning about crap is part of normality. And most people experienceing tragedy would just like that normality back.

Pag - you've hit it on the head:

or maybe we are just a right couple of whingers LiRedWG

tiredsville · 05/02/2009 15:01

I too agree with Kerry.
I often think of how lucky I am and appreciate life.
Awful things happen daily in this world (children staving, innocent's being killed) I'm not shallow enough to reflect and get philosophical because of the news of Jade Goody.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 05/02/2009 15:05

'stop moaning if only just for today'

well - if you promise its only for one day, then I may be able to manage .... {sigh}

LilRedWG · 05/02/2009 15:22

There is always that option Pagwatch.

pagwatch · 05/02/2009 15:25

Actually if I ever want to feel giddy with joy ( not an expression my face usually accomodates) i just phone my sister. Listening to her complain about everything is incredibly uplifting. It is like the oppsite of a Dementor.
I put the phone down and think 'well at least I am not her'

I suppose that makes me quite horrible really

FrostyTheBodyBag · 05/02/2009 15:28

Humans are fundermentally selfish creatures.

You're lovely pag!
(thanks for my pat brow-stroke yesterday!)

And may I say in response to the OP, of course we should be grateful for what we have, but it is normal to be totally wrapped up in one's own problems.

HMC · 05/02/2009 22:53

Hi TheFallen, no they don't know what's causing his problems, but we are mightly relieved it isn't something life limiting!

CatchaStar · 05/02/2009 22:59

I got a phonecall tonight to let me know a close family member had died, it certainly does put things into perspective.

HMC · 05/02/2009 23:02

Oh dear, sorry to hear that CatchaStar

CatchaStar · 05/02/2009 23:04

Thanks HMC. I feel completely numb. Another close family member died this time last year too.

Life can be very cruel, but in all fairness she was 95 so had a ruddy good run.

HMC · 05/02/2009 23:08

If you loved them, it is always hard - irrespective of the age
