I can walk to school but it is up hill, I'm heavily pregnant and it is too dangerous. I have a car but am scared to drive when the roads are bad. I have friends/other mums who will help but it is not always covienent with work, distance etc so don't always like to ask.

Would IBU to keep them at home? And what is a school's take on this, is it truanting?

OK, but the name in capitals did look a bit aggressive.

Psycho - I think your school were daft not letting them out - the first thing our head did was take the whole lot out onto the school field to build snowmen - they had a lot more fun than the kids who stayed at home. They took the digital cameras out too and then learned how to upload the pictures to our website and used them to illustrate their snow poems - so they have wonderful memories too.

We took DS (14mo)out for a walk in the snow today and what surprised me most, especially having found out that all Surrey schools were closed, is how few children there were out and about in the snow. When we were kids, back in the dim and distant, we couldn't wait for snow and got booted up asap and out into it for making snowmen, snowballing, snow-angels etc.

Most odd.

It's not snow, it's an IT lesson

rusty, when we were at school (way back), and we had snow, we were out in it...................building snowmen, having snowball fights with the teachers, really really having fun.

in fact, t'was the only time we were allowed on the school field bar sports..........and we LOVED it.

mean health and safety now-a-days..........spoil all our fun

Rusty - that is the internet for you. I actually put you're name in caps so you would see it as it was mid sentence. So yes it is ok.

The problem with this country is that we are not properly prepared for this type of weather and these days if the child was to hurt them selfs in school and it could have been avoided they could get sued for compensation. This evening my partner had difficulty driving in this weather he was sliding all over place. I dont care what any school says my childrens safety comes first before any school policy. My children had a lovely time throwing snow balls in the safety of my garden where i can keep an eye on them.

snow is a good reason to take a day off! It's not like we live in Canada or somewhere and have a clue what to do. You are heavily pg, send them out into the back yard for a bit of snow fun and put your feet up love.
